Hi grant, welcome, you will see many posts from me over the past month, I am a noobie and had the same questions but with new veg oil.
Mine is running currently on 40l of ktc veg oil (new at 79p a litre)
And 3.8 litres of petrol (to thin the mix)
In a post i made last night i posted up interesting mixing facts and gelling points of different fluids. Veg oil goes into a gel at 0 degrees so a spirit or petrol must be added to make the gelling point way below freezing and to thin the mixture.
I also shake my truck every morning before I get in :lol
She smells wicked and I have no performance difference what so ever.
Nor have I had to change the fuel filter (i believe you do on used veg oil though)
Chuck some in and give it a go, you wont go back :thumb2
Also as you will find here fixing your terrano is practically free when you join up on the forum, the guys here and the knowledge available is better an the dealerships (not to mention the care too) oh god I'm getting all emotional again :p

Run mine on bio all summer and its been fine, put 40 ltr KTC in this week mixed with 40ltr diesel, runs ok when warm but low on power and really struggling to start!! Put new glow plugs in and no change. Be careful it might catch you out!!

Oh crap :doh
There's plenty of sill weld bits on the forums too, let's hope it's not the one in that showroom we spotted recently :nenau
But yeah, generally they are great trucks with loads of available mods and virtually indestructible. I spoke to two taxi drivers with same engine, one said two engines went past 1 million miles and one driver personally had over 540,000 miles :thumb2

Elaborate on "slow at starting" is it turning over slow or turning over at normal speed and just not firing?

Hello Banshee.. the battery seems a little tired but also takes a few seconds to fire up, so i think it is a bit of both...

test each glow plug simple continuity test will do or remove and connect across you battery via jump leads each plug should GLOW in seconds. maybe remove the starter motor and clean it up they do suffer on these big engines finnally check your earths

Be careful taking it to a garage (i work in one bearing in mind) you could get ripped off royally.
Why not pay the tenner on this forum and receive some help? I cant volunteer anyone but I'm sure someone would be willing to help a fellow member.
You will find most dealers just don't care and charge far too much.
Maybe a few bob to someone willing? :nenau not me though, read my signature.. :naughty

I agree. There are threads on here where people have been told by several garages that their Trusty t2's are scrap yet with a tenners worth of tech help on here the cars have been saved:thumb2.
Oh and welcome to a great forum:D

welcome! i experimented with some veg oil in a clear cup on the windowsill last year and it was fine to way below zero, thicker but still a defo liquid, just add more diesel in the colder months, even a 50/50 mix is a good saving ££ and should give no problem on the colder mornings.

I second this, I am running about 92 percent veg ish, and she does splutter a tiny bit when cold in the morning (still runs fine) then once temp gauge rises to a quarter she's normal :thumb2 i have been told when summer is here this wont happen atall. I live opposite huge empty fields and the frost gets to my car n bike quite badly.

I have used Veg Oil on and off over the years the key is it must have a BOSCH fuel pump as apparently on the Lucas pumps the diesel is used to lubricate the internals and veg oil is too thick to lubricate therefore over time the pump breaks down.
Used so far in 1.5D Citreon AX
1994 VW Golf TDI
1989 Toyota Townace (brilliant old bus by the way)
I used SVO bought when on offer, but also used WVO (Waste Oil) that I simply filtered through the breathing face mask (pound shop ones that cover nose and mouth) ....never had any issues whatsoever !! But after filtering the WVO into clear 2lt bottle I always left it for around five days in the garage for any water to separate then simply poured it in !
Know I could have used micron filters and stuff like the mask were all I had at first and they worked!
Bit cowboy I know but whole idea was to do it on the cheap.
Cheers
BM:)

Aha sounds cool! I'm running neat veg but I'm too scared to run used veg oil :o

The best bet is to shop around for the best price on SVO and just tip in ! Once you know your MAF and Fuel pump of course.
Found WVO very messy and time consuming but that's just me...I only used the WVO because I'm a tight northerner !

bigbunny, thin oil with rug as its thins the oil twice as much than derv.
i have been caravanning last week in norfolk and on starting it up it was a little sluggish on pull away on my mix of 25/75 wvo so popped a tenner of rug in and solved the problem.tank was 3/4 full.

To ask what is probably a silly question, what is RUG?
sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

You would not believe my run of events but here goes!! started running the veg mixed with petrol, only 10 litres but seemed fine. Then I added 40 litres veg and it started to struggle so I added more diesel but it did nothing so I put clear fuel pipes on and I had air in the fuel  with it been thicker it had pulled air in the fuel line from the tank so I fitted a new line. Still had air but only in the pipe coming out the fuel filter!! So I fitted a Landover Bosch filter head and after a bit of messing had it air tight and sorted. £2 filters from now;) in the middle of all this I fitted new heater plugs as I had one duff and thought id do them all seen as I was running the veg and did not want starting issues. Well I got a new set from flea bay and fitted them. It fired up great, but then just got worse an worse but I thought it was the veggie or air in the system. After checking over everything id done I went back to the plugs and took them out to find they had all burnt out :eek: Fake Lucas plugs from eBay!!! New plugs fitted again from the motor factors and is spot on now. I'll be getting some more veg now I have it sorted :clap:clap

Boom, veg oil is the way.
I had some running issues that I thought was down to the veg but ive had colder says and shorter journeys and it hasn't done it in ages so who knows :thumbs
I think my battery or glow plugs could be due for a change soon
