View Full Version : Friends of Nissan 4x4, should it be a fiver again?

In the distant past there used to be a facility for those who had been fully paid members (perhaps it could be for 2 or more years if we did it again) to stay on for half price if they sold their Nissan. Would this be a good way to keep old friends here :nenau
Nah. It's only a tenner a year

It used to work well, and membership seems to be shrinking in the face of social media. having old friends stay with us at a discount has to be a good thing, even if it's at BAt21 or mods discression :thumb2

Sounds like a good idea might convince me to stay when my sub has expired.
Trouble is I have been barred from the useless Hyundai Forum seemingly for life unless I change my internet IP !!

my membership is up in feb... ill be done then as i dont own a nissan anymore so the tenner is a waste for me.

Yeah, in fact, we could double it for Ryan, to make sure he doesn't come back...:lol:lol:lol
Now the comment above is a joke, I actually miss Ryan, and so do quite a few of us, especially on modding trucks, removing roof linings and the like.
I think "associate membership" for half price would be a good idea, BUT free access to say some of the forums... say the technical forums should be restricted to prevent misuse of the privilege, unless they are a topic raised by a full member.
There are a lot of past Nissan Owners on here, and we still value their input.
Hearing about other cars and 4x4's only convinces me that I made the right decision when I bought my Maverick over 18 years ago:nenau
This forum needs new members, but we also need owners of new Nissan models of 4x4 to join.
How many of the latest Nissan 4x4 owners are registered? a few Xtrail, but very few threads, the odd Navara, and one or two Path finders, but this site is predominantly Terranos (including Mavericks) and secondly Patrols.
Since the Terrano is no longer manufactured, and the average age over 10 years old (best guess) how long can this club continue with what we have?

Rustic you have made some very valid points here, I do not know the answer, but clearly as you say T2 owners are going to diminish over time, my problem (if it is a problem) is I only know about T2's and that is rather limited, Xtrails, Patrols etc I can only generalise, so what I am trying to say is I will be of limited use, can I see redundancy in the distance :rolleyes::confused: Rick
It's interesting that there aren't more X Trail, Pathfinder and Navara owners etc on the site, and that it has a Terrano/Patrol centric user base.
I may be flying in the face of popular opinion here, but I think c85 pence a month is brilliant value for money considering the general quality of the resource.
The site belongs to BAT21, and I understand that he had buy it from the previous owner. I' m guessing that he makes a modest profit on his investment, which is fine by me, as that is the way of commerce.
I would respectfully suggest that a number of members could be provided with (cut-price) premium membership, who in BAT21's opinion provide consistent quality posts, that add true value to the forums. I would even go as far to say that I would not mind paying an additional couple of quid a year extra to support such a scheme.
Needless to say... Just an idea?
Regards
Alan
Frineds of Nisan 4x4, should it be a fiver again?
The difference between the £5 & £10 a year is 42p a month or 1.4p per day.... please tell me things arent that bad in Planksville or any other household for that matter
if it aint broke ..... why try to fix it ?

As this is such a good website might it be worth expanding the site to a multi franchise one? In the 70's many makes of car were sold new from under the same roof. I worked for a car dealer who sold Vauxhall Audi Opel and Mercedes. We could include other Japanese or Korean marques. Obviously we could not entertain the likes of Land Rover under any circumstances. Lol

Nice idea but, I'm sure there are plenty of sites out there catering for just about every type of 4x4 out there.
For your idea to work we would have to 're brand' as I doubt there would be many Toyota/Suzuki/Mitsubishi etc owners out there wanting to join the Nissan4x4OwnersClub :nenau
As others have said, this is predominantly a Terrano/Maverick site and as numbers diminish so will its numbers so many be we need to expand somehow :nenau

Would it be possible to extend members other vehicles a little so there were sub-categories for males. That might help retention?

I'm happy to pay my tenner, I just think it's sad to see old members go. And as they no longer need the technical help and only socialise, plus they have a lot give. A discount to keep them in the gang would be nice, this way you may get a fiver as opposed to losing a tenner :thumbs

I hear what you're saying but it would be more trouble than it is worth from an administrative point of view.
The other possible option would be to scrap the subscription fee altogether, but that would mean introducing things like banner ads etc....

Just a suggestion....
I belonged to the Frontera Owners Club for several years until buying my Terrano 20 months ago, & an excellent site it is. The point being that Fronteras ceased production before the Terrano but the site is still going strong. Maybe something to do with the bigger volume of Fronteras around?
Without intending any offence to this invaluable site, a look at the FOC site will show you why it excels. I've yet to come across a site so well laid out or so comprehensive but it must take an enormous amount of time & effort.
It's the way of the world that interest in this Terrano-specific site will diminish over the years, the Terrano is a relatively rare beast after all. I only hope it lasts longer than my Terrano LOL.

I think we also loose ground in the face of social media like Facebook, people only have so much time to have fun on the net. But I don't understand how accepting £5 is any more work that loosing £10 :nenau
it would be nice to keep the old crowd on here (old as in long term not past it lol) even if this was offered on a one to one basis by you or TTT2 and not a blanket policy, nudge nudge :thumbs
I spent a couple of years on here as a half price member with no Nissan (under the old admin) then I came back as a full member :thumb2
It may only be a few pence a week but the yearly price total of £10 will put some people off.
You will soon be able to pay your road tax monthly:clap

Only if you want every Tom Dick and Harry to come in, some with their pointless and argumentative discussions.
I like many others, am a member of other forums, in my case boating forums, and those that have paid members are more friendly, but the free sites tend to have a few regulars who pull apart every post, looking for hidden messages and misquoting, and misinterpreting innocent posts.
There are far more heated and pointless discussions on the free forums, than on the paid subscription ones, in my opinion.
Or is it just me who thinks this?
I feel like we are all family, helping and advising each other, but most are strangers to each other. I have never known this on any other forum.:thumb2

When you dont pay your £10, you loose the access to PM's and part of the site.
But you can still drop in and post.
Do we need a £5 membership
I bet you will pay more though....monthly instalments and all that
Actually no its just going to be 5% premium compared with the current 10% for paying twice a year

As said before I do not have the answers, but I like this site and the people on it, that is why I am still here, in all other things that I do I am completely independent, and self sufficient, a bit of a loner if you like, I hate asking for help on anything, and left to my own devices usually get there, but sometimes time becomes a factor and that is about the only time I ask, but by the same token I know I have the knowledge on most things and am more than willing to share it, I do not think £10 per year is going to break anyone's bank and if that is what is needed to keep the time wasters out then great, but diminishing T2/Mav owners? I do not know the answer, Rick

I completely agree. I too am a member of several forums and the point scoring that occurs on most is shocking to be honest but here it is far more civilised.
Also I have recently paid my £10 even tho my old patrol has been off the road since August and probably won't see Tarmac again for some time.

I think, as has already been said, you already have 2 choices, someone can come on here and not pay a penny, have limited access, but get a feel for the place or they pay their tenner and have full access and join in all the fun and frolics...
I can't really see it making any difference if it is a tenner or a fiver, if they are cash strapped enough to question if it is worth staying a member, having already been a member on here for a couple of years, and already know how great the site is, then maybe they are not one of the people that would be missed if they left anyway.
The thing is, some people have left, even though their membership still had a while to run, so it kind of already points to the fact that having a reduced fee would not actually make a difference any way.

As I said, I am happy to keep the site as it is, and to pay my tenner, I was just trying to hold on to our old friends who get new cars. They also have a wealth of experience through their Nissan ownership to share :thumb2

Amen to that!!! Are we talking about a certain member that is talking about leaving?
If we could keep all of the current members and have Ryan back that would be perfect

Yep a sub category for women - we could have some pictures of the Pinkest 4 x 4 motor.
In Long Eaton there was a very Pink Range Rover all badged up as a in an "Overfinch" in an upmarket vehicle outlet (Tom Hartleys) it looked really wrong !!

Briggie, is a fine example, he gives more than he takes, it would be a pity to lose him, and we lost Ryan, and Willow, could we have a few free memberships for Christmas presssies and invite them back?

Of the ones that have left, is it really the £10 that is keeping them away, or is it simply a case of they have moved on for various reasons?
