all I need now is time to fit the thing. Ive got me switch and relay and boost gauge to fit at the same time... I think im getting there with me baby:D

where did you get the lights from?

its cost more than I thought but doesn't it always.
tenner for the steel
the lamps are around a tenner each.
15 for the coating.
tenner for my mates welding costs.
cables wires and swtich 15 quid
all in fitted cost between 110 and 120. but to me worth a lot more ive wanted it done since last winter.

I have now decided I don't like the idea of using rivnuts:nenau
I was just sat daydreaming while shes watchin crap on telly.
wot if my mate Elton takes us down some of these tighter lanes and a branch snags it?
I don't fancy my roof rolling back like a corn beef tin:o
so my next job is to remove the roof lining and reinforce any pressure points.
while im at it im thinking of my safari rack.
the roof rails on it have a weight capacity of 90kg.
by the time my rack is made that will reduce a bit.
so Im going to look at reinforcing that too:D

Never done it on a T2 but all the inner trims will have to come off & the door seals will have to be pulled down out of the way:rolleyes: not sure if it's just clipped in place

if you look at most of the safari racks they fix to the gutter(which a terrano hasn't got)in 6 - 8 places.
would be stronger fixing at the edge of the roof under the door shuts as the roof is very strong there its just the rear window area which would be hard to do.

I would have wired them as a two and a four, then you have the choice, of 2,4 or 6 on at a time, but only two switches.
Have you done your current calculations? For 55 watt you will draw approx 5 amps per lamp, so a total of 30 amps for 6, on both the feed and the ground return.
For this type of wiring you need to at least double the capacity of the cables, even more, if a longer run, you might require cabling that is rated at 60 amps or more if wired together.
You will also need suitable fusing, better fused in pairs, then if one develops a fault, you don't suddenly loose all 6 :doh

I was thinking buy bar,fit lights put to battery and blind people who are parked on the wrong side if the road with there head lights on.
the bloke in the bits and bobs shop (wow what an aladins cave) did all the calculations.
27.5 amps means a 30 amp relay cables the same as I build my 12 volt campervan system with.
he also said that a 15 amp fuse should be used with the 30 amp relay I was using.
All made perfect sense to me..and it only cost me 18 quid for the advice.
and tonnes of bits
started to take my roof liner out this morning while the misses was dropin the sprog of at school.
glad I did. riv nuts on the roof might not have been a good idea.

roof liner is almost out mate.
bit of welding here and there before it goes back.if it goes back.
see where I can have a few bits welded to strengthen the existing holesand maybe add a couple of extra supports.
It has got to support most my camping gear and some.

having said that forgive the rough sketch but is this the correct wiring?
it wont get dimmer as it gets to the last lamp?

It is correct, but to be safe, I would wire them in pairs, and run 3 pairs of wires down, the potential volt drop on that, with all those connections is very high.

That's how I wired mine IIRC only had 4 on the roof & 2 on the bumper but the 20a cable I used for the roof never got hot even after being on an hour but what rustic has said about doubling the ampage of the cable is right & safer. It'll be like day light with them on:lol comming back from Scotland one night no moon & really bad weather a guy went to over take me, I switched the spots off & he just froze along side me before hitting the breaks & pulling back in behind me as he could see the road better (twisty) & stopped theire for the next 30 miles:lol:lol:lol
