Just bought myself a swb maverick, didn't really look at it, knew it was gonna be rusty anyway but it was cheap and it's only for a bit of fun over winter.

changed the wheels

turns out the rust is a bit worse than I was expecting though as the rear spring seats have rusted off the chassis so think I'm gonna be a busy boy and prob end up asking all the same questions as everyone else has lol

Hi and welcome . Got the same year, but the Nissan version, got it four years ago when it had done 113,000 miles, put 35,000 Spanish miles on it in that time - love it to bits. Rust not too bad on mine, looks like it was undersealed from new, so just the usual places, sills just in front of the rear wheels and the edges of the wheel arches - might get around to doing something about it sometime, but as they say, manana!

I managed to get it a lot cheaper than it was advertised for and got the alloys with insa special tracks in the deal to ;-)
Just hope it stays dry for a while so I can sort it

rear spring seats not so easy to do, lots of work there methinks, but worth it if you can get your body in there, I have enough trouble just doing sills etc, dont bend as easy as I used to, and it hurts far too much when a hot bit splashes on me and I jump, ouch, but good luck anyway, oh and welcome mate, Rick

I reckon an alternative fix is to bin the old Nisssan spring seat rot thingies. Then fit a fabricated bit of 6mm bent plate (channel like ) right across the chassis. Weld that on where the the seat used to be. Then fix some spring disslocating cones on the steel and you get lift in the bargain :sly
Doing it on mine so I can locate my rear winch on it inboard stylee :naughty

that sounds interesting Pete, like to see some pics when you have done it, should be a nice strong set up, difficult on my current off roader as rear rad gets in the way but nice idea, Rick

Well I ended up welding a section across with the spring seats about 2 and a half inches lower than the originals to give it a lift.
Only problem I have is that its in the way of where the exhaust needs to run so just going to put a down facing tail pipe on the end of the centre section

Good job, that's what I'm doing and then putting my rear winch ontop of that cross piece :thumbs
My exhaust goes out the side though :sly
Nice tyre choice :thumbs
