It's a push down and back while the truck is stationary and in neutral. If that's done properly and still no drive, have a spy under neath for a linkage problem. Is the truck std or lifted?
Oh welcome by the way :D

he shouldn't need to do that as long as the gearbox is in neutral he can go from 4high to 4low

Welcome to the club, if you check the drivers sun visor there should be some instructions on how the 4wd system works :thumbs

Hi Mark, welcome to the club.
As said before, you have to push down the 4x4 lever down through neutral, and then back a bit more. This takes a bit of wrist work the first time.

If you still can't get 4 low, then if it has had a body lift, then the lever is catching on the surrounding rubber.

Others have had similar problems with non use, in that the lever mechanism gets full of crud and needs WD 40 and some elbow grease.
I think you can get to it from underneath, but also worth removing the gear knob and shroud and have a look see.

Hope this helps,
best regards,

Rustic

Well that's it then . Lifted truck needs the hi-lo hole opened up a tad at the back to allow the lever to travel the last bit.
Oik the gaiter off and apply mr hammer or mrs grinder to the offending metal. Simples :thumbs
PS, that's more than a tenners worth of info already :)

Hi chaps, I'm picking my 3lt terrano 05 plate on Friday !! Done a deal with a nissan breakers ... My 3lt patrol(blown head gasket) and a bit of dollar!! I haven't even seen the terrano in the flesh, so what are the things I need to check/look for when I get there?? The garage have changed the bushes(for nylon ones),front pads/discs changed one of the wheel bearings and done a oil and filter change...when I say I know nothing about motors it's an understatement !!! But I'm willing to learn/read and have a go.. Please advise ! Thanks in advance rob

It's worth giving the gearbox and drive train oils a change GL4 spec oil is a must in the gearbox.
Check the gearbox works fine in all gears and the low/high range, listen for knocks, whines,
You should be OK for rust at that age, but do check the under the rear wheel arches where the rear seat belts bolt to, the rear floor load area, front part/rear of the cills if these areas are OK, then put plenty of protection in when you get it home.
What mileage has it done, does it have service history.
