blood test turn around time!

You know there is a problem with your health when you go for a blood test and the doctor phones you within 24 hours of them taking it.
It normally takes about 2 weeks.
so Im a little worried about tomorrows appointment.
tonight I will be having a few:beer:and maybe a :splif in case its bad news and I have to change my ways:eek:

depends on what they were testing for, blood test in itself means little, so big question WHAT WAS THE TEST FOR? Rick

they tested for pretty much every thing. they took at least 6 vials from me.
the walk in was heaving with people and it was a 90 min wait the day before.
Hopefully im worrying about nothing.
But I know my surgery and you normaly have to chase things up rather than them phoning you. and within 24 hours.
its probably nowt but you cant help the things going through your mind

Over here in France it's normal for your results to be ready at the end of that day/next day/2 working days after,a copy also sent to your doctor(who gave you a prescription in the 1st place,unless your insurance company requested one) so it shouldn't be a worry.Just a mild outbreak of efficiency!:lol

Well as a survivor of Hodgkin's Disease a type of blood cancer you will be re-assured to know that even this could not be detected with a blood test - had to be a biopsy of a lump in my neck that was in 1987 & again in 1991.

To my knowledge cancers are still diagnosed by means of a biopsy so if you rule out worst case scenario's everything gets better.

Do not know your age or reasons for the tests but common things as you get older are diabetes, high colestrol / lipid levels / high billirubens. All very treatable.

We all fear the unknown but start to worry when you have the facts - then get your head round them and cope with what life throws at you.

That my philosophy on life - just had the one heart attack 2 years ago but managed to have 4 stents fitted prior to that. Still here to tell the tale and working at 65 !

Sound logical advice... but I think it would still be hard to not be worried... :lol

Like Rick, our Vet takes a sample of blood from the ferrets, sends out to the waiting room, unless the nurse is there to do it, and there are more things to check on the ferret, and in 20 mins, the basic results are back.. When Suz had Pneumonia at the beginning of the year, and the hospital needed to know which strain it was, in order to use the right antibiotics, I think it took them less than half an hour as well although time frames when you are in a hospital are all warped...

I guess it depends on what they are looking for though, and if they need to culture it to see what is growing, then things take longer.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. When I had my treatment for stage 2 Hodgkins the survival rate was around 65% its now in the 97% region. I had the old Vincristen drug treatment the side effects were awful. When it came back 4 years later the Chemotherapy drugs were much improved. Ted

I am not sure what the treatments were, I was at an age, where I tried to shut it out, and pretend that it would all go away (La La Laaa, La). I know the effects from the Chemo treatment he had, were worse than the cancer it's self (He lost all his teeth, hair, got several ulcers, and had some bone thinning, resulting in a dodgy jaw), and he always swore he would not have it a second time. He was on some pain killers, I think it was something like Distalgesic (sp) and the first time he took the recommended dose, he lost 3 days, as they wiped him out cold. The doctor said that was preferable, as most people hallucinated on them...This was all back around 1977 to 1990, and thank goodness, they have jumped forward a huge amount..

Apparently I need more exersice.

I must admit I was a bit worried as the doc said results would be about 10 days and it was the next day they phoned me.
I usualy have to chace anything up with them.
being a drinker and a smoker isn't a healthy lifestyle too,
on the upside I have been prescribed champix to quit smoking. which will save me a massive 20 quid a day (I smoke a lot of cigars)
they make you quit wether you want to or not.
I quit about 3 years ago with these for well over a year.
I wont go into details about the last worst 2 years we have ever had but like a tit I started again.
I will not relapse again
