Just got this from local site:eek:
http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/local_news/10644967.Motorway_death_lorry_driver_jailed_for_fo ur_and_a_half_years/?ref=eb

Is 4 and a half years jail and a 5 year ban enough deterrent to a professional driver:doh
I think not, a ban from UK roads for life would be a little better

I agree, to many trucks on the roads who's drivers drive outside of the rules, seems to be a lots of accidents are caused by tired drivers pushing their luck and a lot appear to be foriegn trucks

This was as good as premeditated murder IMHO. & all he got was 4 1/2y (will actualy be 1/3 of this). If he'd held up the local 1stop & stolen £5 the jail term would have been more. Not justice by anyones standards.

As is the usual case in this country, we are far too lax, in the 70's when I was driving a truck going into Austria and many times Germany when at a boarder and needing to show your papers you had to take your taco disc in as well and if you flouted the rules you were fined there and then and if you did not pay you did not move, even to the extent that fuel tanks were dipped and if you entered the county with more than allowed you paid duty on the extra, most times the amount you were allowed was just enough to get you to the nearest fuel station, the French could be bought with a carton of fags but not the Germans or Austrians or indeed the Swiss, trucks coming into this country are pretty much immune, Rick
