just been informed be the dad that if i ran a aux battery and a 12n system on my hyundai i'll fry the alternator.

is this true or the usual rubbish he tells me to stop me modding my vehicles?:doh

will i need to fit a aux alternator to it?

Alternator will be fine they will only supply the rated current and no more, if you try and draw to much current the output voltage of the alternator will fall untill it can support the available current.

NO you will not damage your alternator just adding a 12n system, all you need to watch is the total load you will be adding in the form of accessories, if your alternator is rated at say 45 amps then find out find out how much your car will use at a max, that's wipers lights heater blower you name it, if that lot hits 45 amps then you will only have amps available for say your fridge if you reduce the car loading, even if you go over the top for a couple of hours it will not hurt your alternator it will still only put out 45 amps, the rest will come from your battery, Rick

brilliant thanks for that:thumb2 the alternator puts out 50AMPS i beleve, but the tings i'll be running won't be high amps....highest will probably be a pure sine wave inverter, the 2nd battery will be for the camping side of things, lighting etc

If you go floodlights go led 12v soooooooooo much better, do not go running 500 w via an inverter, power hungry, Rick

thanks aye, thinking of mounting a Florescent lamp on the inner tailgate panel so when the tailgate is open, it'll shine down, the tailgate opens quite high on the Hyundai, so you can stand underneath it fully, will have a shower attached to it when i go away camping:D, heated water-tank in the spare wheel well, so warm showers can be had, will also have a curtain that ll attach to the tailgates for privacy

one work

innovation :D
