Hello Guys,
In the past I have had Nissan 4X4's. Worked in Dubai in early 90's and had a Pathfinder. More recently had a couple of X-Trails as company cars. I have my own company and drive Dispatch van but fancy getting a 4x4 again as have always enjoyed driving them.
Going to get a diesel Terrano (£1,000 to £2000) and have been looking at Ebay, Auto Trader etc. I have looked at old post on here for things to look at when checking any potential purchases (great advice). One thing I have noticed on Auto Trader when checking performance and ecomomy page is difference in fuel consumption. 16 valve being better than 8 valve. Can't find any posts on this here and was wondering how you can tell if engine is 8v or 16v and is there any advantage to either option?

Cheers.....Gazza

All the 2.7 TD's and TDi's are 8 valve no options, the 2.4 petrol has 12 valves, Rick

The 3.0L is a 16 valve engine :)

But from what I have read you need to check the engine year as some have a weak point re pistons or con rods or cracked bores, cannot remember which, after a certain date they are apparently OK, Rick

Just get a 2.7 and run it on neat rapeseed oil at 99p per litre

Thanks for the replies. Looks like Auto Trader have mixed up their data sheets. Anyway makes things easier when there is less choice. I will go for the 2.7 TDI (so I can use the cheap rapeseed oil !!! ). Just hope I can find one with plain seats, they have some radical fabric patterns on some of these, Nissan also had a thing about beige interiors!!
