I keep hearing people say the 2.7 engine is bomb proof, and will go for half a million miles. ....... but I've never came across one with that many! just wondering what sort of miles yo trucks have got or what high milage ones have you came across? mines just done 114000 and slowly more and more things are going wrong with it

I've got 145,000, uses no oil, goes like stink and very seldom goes wrong (in four years it's let me down twice, once with a broken fan belt and the other with a foofed ignition switch!)
149k
Replaced half the truck :D
But the engine internals and head gasket are all original. It uses no oil, no smoke whatsoever and as above, it goes like stink :)

Sorry guys....172000 and still going strong, no smoke and no oil used and i have to say i dont service it particularly regular.
I would also like to say it is a cracking motor and i am very impressed with both on and off road performance.
I suspect mine will need a little bit of welding at the end of the year for the next MOT, but nothing that cant be fixed.
the old truck before it had its little welding accident was on 242k miles this one is on just over 100k
124k on mine, runs well.. no known problems.... could be hundreds of unknown ones :lol

161k been standing since February but just started first time :-)
mine just rolled over to 160,000 today. but i suspect it was run without a speedo cable for a long while as old mots show it doing about 50-100 miles between tests but there are reciepts for consumables??!!?? still running and uses no engine oil.

 im abit worried about the fact none of your trucks go through oil, im topping mine up every 6-8 weeks it's normally half way down the dipstick and it uses water to, i have to top my anti freez up ever two weeks or so.....

mine uses a touc of oil but thats because the blowby control valve is poo ansl uses water but again thats because one of te bolts that holds the waterpump in place is threaded
It's only got just under 90k it.And that's on a 2001 plate:)

Turbo on its way out and/or head gasket methinks
London black cabs use the same engine , and they go on for galactic miles

Turbo on its way and/or head gasket methinks
yeah was thinking the same, I hope its not the head gasket, I'd rather it be turbo..........
HG is pretty simple on these to be fair, no timing gear to mess about with, just pull the head off strip it and get it skimmed/tested

former member ian douglas had an early t2, possibly pre production and was on 180K
there was a thread sometime ago that linked to a nissan usa site where some of theirs
were 250K, 500K etc
heard many of the 2.7d taxis have been converted to lpg and spark ignition.

On a dry day use the car and then park it up on a level surface. Then keep an eye on the floor at the centre of the car just from the front bumper. Watch for a small amount of water. That's a good indicator of water pump which is my bet.
Also check inside of oil filler cap for mayo, also expansion tank for signs of oil too.

That's cracking, did he just clean it well and check it with a straight edge then ?

I did the water pump over Christmas, and no mayo on filler cap, the water in the water bottle looks abit rusty/orange dont know if thats an indication of anything? ???

That's an indication that it needs draining and refilling with fresh stuff ;)
