John, try some of the breakers, not sure if a retro fit can be wired to include the remote, (sure someone will know) but just keep checking on ebay

Is this one in the radio in the dash, or the one under the seat?

Not sure if it is the same on the later T2's, but in my 1999 one, they fitted badged clarion/blaupunkt units, and according to the workshop manual, once a new head unit is installed, the first time it is switched on, it some how links to the cars ECU, and will only work when connected to the same ECU, so buying one off of someone else means, even if you saw it working in the original car, once put in yours, it will not work.
I did read you can send them off to a Clarion/Blaupunkt dealer, to be reset, but I think they only do it when repairing them, rather than as a service., but might be worth checking before you pay out for one.
The other option might be to see which company manufactures your radio, and then you may find that if you buy the same manufactures unit, it will be able to utilise the remote.

As I say, it may be different on the newer models though, so would be worth looking to see what make the radio is, mine has Nissan on the front, but Blaupunkt on a label on the top.
My CD unit was under the Drivers seat, and again, it had Nissan on it, but the cassette had Blaupunkt, and when I wanted a second one, I got a Clarion one off of Ebay which worked perfectly.
