Its been quite some time since me(steve) jac (my wife) and our sprog skye and our hopefully mother to be labarador dog have been out for some good quality family time.
Today was special.
We have always liked country walking and the out door lifestyle, bbq's,camping, mountineering, cycling and stuff like that.not to mention gardening, veg growing, and greenhouse work.
Today is the first time in ages we put every thing aside and went over to hartington for a good walk down wofscote dale, berisford dale.and bit in beetween.
Our 5 year old girl got up early, helped with butties and soup, travled for an hour chatting, walked 7 miles(rocky and sillpy miles)then we went for a pub tea in hartington.wow it was good and a coal fire lit that was red hot.
every time we go for a walk in the peak district we always without fail get a good sight of motor crossers (bikes) green laning crossing our path.
Ive always been jealous a bit as I love bikes and adventure.
having watched them go about there buisness I plotted there course on my map.
I then came to realise what green laning was all about.
Am I right in thinking we can drive down any of those lanes with green dots on an os map.?
I wasnt sure.
so after our pub grub I said fook it were going take a look at this road here.
after such a good walk and such a good meal to find an off road dirt track with deep snow, rocky bits and deep water thrown in to boot.
wow it has been a good day indeed.
did I do anything illeagle going down these roads? I dont know.but one things for sure.
Now I know which lanes to look for on an os map I will be planning some routes with as little tarmac as possible. I love it.
I fancy building an off road trailer with maybe a fold out platform with enough space to put a tent on.
with maybe a leveling system so we could even camp on bog ground and be dry.
I could probably build the trailer, but Im not quite computer literate enough to put my self an avatar on my profile. or post the pics of our day out.
I think 14 million pixels was too much to upload.
and I was getting to a point.
me little girl didint nod off on the way home, came in had a bath got changed and has gone out for live entertainment with her grandad.
Im getting old, Im knackerd.off roadings my next mid life crisiss i think.

Glad you had a good day, I'm originally from Ashbourne, and I only got into green laning through this club and another (jap4x4ownersclub) search it:augie, but must say not really wise to go out on your own, just in case you got it wrong and got stuck, broke something ect:thumbs. As for lanes you can use someone will be along to correct me but I think you can only use lanes marked as public byways on os maps, although these due change with lane closures, restrictions ect.

We go out regularly, every few weeks, with a mixture of easy to hard lanes, and no body pushes you to do something your not sure of:thumbs

But now need more info of your truck, any mods done, lifted ect, where a outs are you.

Ps. Did you stop off in the Charles cotton, probebly best pub in Hartington?

for the first time in ages I had some cash in my pocket and had a lovely meal in the cotton which was a good end to a great day.

Ive not done any mods at all to the truck yet.
I think it will just adapt to our needs depending on how far we go with off roading.
not so botherd about cosmetics. but would like it lifted a bit, lots of headlights and a light strip above the cab, beefy tyres, and time will tell if i need things like a winch ect.
please keep me informed of any beginer off road training, days out please.

Sounds a cracking day out, as has been said though best not to go alone, days out are always being arranged on other club sites (one has been mentioned already) and most days are catered for families with lots of stops for chances to chinwag and have a brew and a bite to eat, the usual thing to do is take a packed lunch and flask, if i was you my first mod would be some decent boots and to buy a cb radio, not only good for banter while out laning but also good for being pre warned of any hazards that are up ahead, glad you and the family enjoyed it :thumbs:thumb2:clap

Just be wary the OS map is not that definitive. What I mean is some of the greenlanes may have been closed.

Your meant to find out really with your local council rights of way but I will be honest I have never done that but I am in a club where knowledge is passed down.

Yes best not to go out on your own , But hey I do it all the time. But I am more experienced and prepared. Recovery kit, tools etc. Aswell as a stove to make hot water etc.

Use photobucket for pics, they resize them automatically for forum size friendly dimensions.
