Urgently Require Headlight Actuator

Hi all, have an MOT equivalent due 23 Dec and if that we're bad enough our local Nissan dealer says there's no Headlight Actuator anywhere in the country. Would I like them to email Spain? I'm writing from Australia BTW.

Thought I'd give this forum a go first. The car is a June build 1999 Nissan Terrano 2.7 Tdi R20. The part is a switch attached to the grille between the headlamp and foglight.

Hope someone can help.

if you are talking about the round headlight version, then I bet cncfabs will have one, Rick

but as a second thought, this is only a motor than allows down ward adjusting from the normal position, is that a fail in Aus? check with the test station before you commit to purchase, Rick

Thanks for the quick response Rick. :thumb2 Sorry about the slow reply, haven’t been able to get back to the internet since my last post.

No. I don't think that's a fail in Aus. But your reply makes me think I must have been given the wrong part number, or better yet, the reason for my right hand high beam not working might be unrelated to the black control box between the two lamps getting damaged when the battery shifted forwards.

You've given me hope that it's just a bad earth after all. :clap I'll check it out ASAP.

I need a part for a June build 1999 Nissan Terrano 2.7 Tdi R20.

My front driver’s side headlight only works on low beam. Tried changing bulbs of course, but thought it might be related to a damaged relay mounted on the grille between the headlight and fog light just in front of the battery which had rattled loose and come forwards.

The Nissan dealer’s identified the part as a Headlight actuator (part no: 260567F001) and explained that there are none in the country (Australia). I have an MOT equivalent due on DEC 23 and would like to replace this part ASAP, however hopeful that sounds.

That aside, comments from Solarman216 lead me to believe that this part only moves the headlights up or down and shouldn’t have any effect on the lights working or not. Currently don’t have a camera or I’d include a pic. Suggestions welcome.

I do have the part but not sure if it has any connection to lights not working.Will connect one up then unplug the actuator to see if the light goes out

Have you looked at the Workshop Manual... Mind you, don't trust it 100%, as it does lie....:lol

I am assuming you do not have "Daytime running Lights", as they add another control box into the equation!

The Head light wiring diagrams 26/292

The Headlamp Aimng control is on 37/292

According to the diagrams the Head light actuator has nothing to do with the actual working of the head lights, and is a completely separate circuit that just raises and lowers them.

Looking at the wiring diagram, there are 2 relays located in the foot well of the car, one on passenger side controls the Head Light that side, and one on drivers side that does that... Look on page 243/292 for a clue to exactly where...

Now, it is a bit hard to follow, but it looks like the relay controls only the dipped beam, and the high beam is direct from the switch, and turns the dipped beam off via the relay when you are on the High beams.

Personally, I would find the relays first, and while touching one, flick from dipped to main and back... you should feel them click... if one does not click, I would swap them over from side to side, and see if the problem moves... If it does, it's probably the relay.. Even if both do click, it might be worth swapping them over, as it could be the contact has burnt out.

If it does not swap sides, or both relays do click, you are more than likely looking at damaged wiring... and for that, you will need to get the multi-meter/test lamp out and see which bits of the circuit are and aren't working.

I think I would also have a good look at the Earthing, (I know you mentioned it already) as the way it is wired, if the earth got damaged, you could have a weird symptom where the Dipped, and Main plus the bulb on the other side can all end up connected in series, giving the effect of only having one beam.

If you have one, go with the Multimeter, or Test lamp (easy to make, just a low wattage bulb on two ling lengths of wire), and see if you have power at the Main beam using a separate earth directly on the body, rather than the one on the socket.
