My dad's mate who's an mot tester said that I'll need to replace the rear bumper and wind down the torsions by half an inch.
Wtf does the torsion height have to do with mot ?
Unless its sat on the upper bump stops like mine was ?

it has to be its vosa who set standards not the garage themselves same as they cannot charge for a retest within the 10 day period, nor can they hit you with "but you too it off the property" its still free retest :thumbs

As long as there's no sharp (dangerous) parts on the bumper then you're ok :thumb2 Needs to be secure and not split, but even that can be gaffa taped. Sounds to me like you just need to fit the starter, take it in for the trst, then fix the things it fails on. Simples and you get 10 days to do it in free. Fact :thumbs
Torsion bar reduction is ballocks unless you've gone way too high and have your lights in the sky like Rick said. In which case it's your fault anyway :o

I'll have to ask about them, I admit, the torsions are high but not ridiculously. He says its putting stress on the joints

Well if it's higher at the front than the back then maybe so :o That in itself isn't mot concern though.

how can iot be when the front end is meant to sit lower than the back????? You're right it should be 15/20mm lower at the front, but level is hardly anything to bust a gut over. Certainly not stressing any joints , appart from your dad's :lol

It says on the MOT if the vehicle is left at the testing station for repair and it is done within 10 days there is no retest fee.
This is known as a Partial Re-Examination or Partial Retest, if you remove the vehicle then its a full "Paid" retest.
However, if you return the next day (Within 24 hours) with certain areas then it could also be free.
it has to be its vosa who set standards not the garage themselves same as they cannot charge for a retest within the 10 day period, nor can they hit you with "but you too it off the property" its still free retest :thumbs
See above.
See above.
Re test fees are down to garage if you remove ie they dont get the work. The one i use charges £35.50 for the test and doesnt charge for re test.I never bother to check anything prior to mot they just give me a list of jobs to do it take it back and doesnt cost a penny
my garage lets me take it away for 14 days and get a free retest on the failed items.

My local mot test station does the same :thumbs

If it goes over 10 days it will still have to have a full re-test (Well it will have to be logged onto the system as having the full retest) because the computer wont let it have a part test after that time period, i know this cos mine just did it when it went for retest. they had to do the full test again. (Or have it logged on as such) He just retested the bits i needed doing and went for a coffee for the remaining 45 minutes
If the garage let you off the bill for it, you found a good one. I use a "well known high street service centre" as my mate is the manager and i get his discount.
But the legal side of it says they can charge you if its removed from the garage.

yes, thats correct 10 working days not including sat or sun. so if it fails on Friday, as long as its back before a week on Thursday its ok, but they still decided if they want to charge you. If its friday then its a full re-test on the computer, they could still do it for free though.
I think we getting confused about if they can charge you or if they have to charge you. Its up to them in all case's, they could give you a free MOT if they wanted to.
But the govenment says they CAN charge if they want to if its removed.
