I got tomtom/navigon/copilot/ios maps and a few more on my iphone, cost me nothing as I jailbroke it, and installed instalous (which takes about 5 mins)

tomtom is as good as a proper tomtom

OK, re-think on the question. I don't have a smart phone nor does the person who will be using this. So - when buying and over the counter sat nav device for £100 max, which would you recommend! acurate directions and simplicity of use are the main criteria - thanks again :thumb2

If you jailbreak your phone you get root privileges that allow you to install non apple approved software, great!! but it also can leave your information more vulnerable to hackers so be aware. David.

I can recommend tomtom, after using garmin and rac own brand (same map software as tomtom) and currently using an old tomtom xl.
I'm actually looking at getting another XL as mine is getting a bit senile, and if you go through quidco you can get about £5 off Halfords screen price via cash back.

Bit of a bugger in traffic though, having to stop and make sure your on the right route.
With a sat nav you can miss a turning or take a wrong exit on roundabout and it will just re-route.
I love sat navs :thumb2

Says he with no smart phone :lol
For those WITH smart phones, Co-Pilot is indeed sh1t hot. All uk and europe maps, all speed , er I mean "Safety Cameras", live traffic updates and auto reroute to avoid traffic jams 25 quid :sly:clap result.
It's too smart for iphones though :lol

Good drivers dont have to stop and check though, unless Buzz had given you directions then its ever two hundres yards. :lol

The basic Tom Tom is fine.It is very simple to use and allows you to put in the Post Code without address or vica versa. No frills. It can be updated on your PC so speed cameras etc can be loaded.

My wife loves our sat nav, no more being expected to know where we are and that map reading muck for her, now she just sits there, takes in the views or snoozes while the world glides by and I can just drive :thumb2

No help to you Plank but to anyone using Android devices or those funny fruity phones, there's a free app called Navfree that's actually darn good, 3d view, postcodes, Europe wide and doesn't rely on a data connection in use - yet to test out safety cameras though so maybe the extra £25 for copilot could be worth it!
