New forum member here, the name is Derek, I live in the green valleys of Carmarthenshire in South Wales and I finally got sucked in and paid my dues after so many glowing references for this place.....

had a Nissan Terrano II SE since new in 1998 hardly done a thing to it

160,000 miles on the clock
1 x clutch
4 new gas shockers @ the 10 year period whether it needed them or not !!
cleaned the MAF once

and other than tyres and exhausts and the odd oil filter and oil change that's all it's ever required, oh had the front bearing tightened up once to have the play taken out of them

my day job is computers/networks/security for the 2nd largest IT company in the world for my sins

I've got a few minor problems with the old Terrano II and I wonder if you can help at all ?

first one is chewing the insides of any tyres I put on the front I suspect camber OR that my torsion bars have run out of puff

second one my engine light seems to come on after I have taken it over 3000 revs for a while and then when it's dropping past 2800 with my foot off the accelerator the light comes on then stays on until it drops to idle after about 30 seconds at idle it will go out and won't happen again for several days

the other thing I've noticed is it's getting a bit clattery when starting from cold (probably age related)

and the last one is when you rev from cold it "used" to rev through smoothly all the way up to the red line if required, but now from cold there are about two areas it revs thru which make it skip a beat not sure if it serious or not

it's not consistent and doesn't do it all the time

so any pointers on these particular problems would be great !! :)

pleased to meet you all :)

Hello Derek and welcome to the club, have you added any oil additive to your engine?? that might get rid of some rattle! and I'd get your tracking checked out m8.
Might see me in your neck of the woods in October,as i will be on holiday in Pembrokeshire!!

Hello Derek and welcome to the club.

Firstly you tyre wear may be due to the camber being out, this can be caused by the torsion bars sagging with age, they can be readjusted quite simply. The measurements and procedure can be found on the CD manual.

Secondly, your engine light coming on as you described may be one of several things, the foot throttle potentiometer being one of them. If you look in the downloads there is a procedure for retrieving and reading any error codes that have been stored in the ecu with the MIL light coming on.

Thirdly, the rough running and clattering when starting from cold could be due to the heater plugs being in need of replacing.

Hi Derek & welcome to the club  as for your little probs the clattering might be that your tappets could do with adjucting as these are OHV engines (like the ford crossflows &mini engines) The tyre wear could be camber but I found that after adjusting my torsion bars the tracking was well out  The rough reving I would have a look to see if you have a mini filter in the banjo bolt as I found I had & after removing it I did'nt have the flat spot I had before

I've cranked up the torsion bars so hopefully the tyre wear will be reduced I'll just have to keep an eye on it, and I've fixed the one speed heater fan.... I shall be combing the forums for any tips on the other problems I've got, and I'll look into all of your suggestions...

thanks again.... great site !! :)
