p1ss poor mpg!

.......did a 265 mile round trip this week. half with empty transporter and half with lwb 4x4 on. brim filled when i left- then brimmed it when i got back and it worked out at 17.8mpg !!!!!

(1996 td sat at approx 65mph 80% motorway an 20% A roads)

I do all my towing with fourtrak get about 26mpg at 50-55 mph

ive never got good mpg towing with a t2 , did better mpg and towing experience with a toyota hilux pickup.
in truth ive a t2 to tow with, but only because its never failed to pull and will get to most things, turning and reversing is nice in a t2

Gross all up at 4.8 tons I get 21 with a petrol Mk 2, about 25 car only round town etc, Rick

Is that a TD oir TDi ? The TD is so under powered and limp on hills? My tdi with 35s and shown no mercy will get me 25ish :thumb2

in a mix of conditions, some towing, some solo, some town etc my MPG is just over 28 running on approx 60% svo at 92p a litre

its a td not a tdi. i used to have a 1997 tdi that had more power and was a lot better on fuel

There you go then check your filters and mini one or better still get a TDi again and enjoy an extra 25 BHP and many many more torques :lol

i keep the filters clean because of running waste veg oil and waste engine oil. mini filter is gone. i think its just how they are! it is a bit better on straight diesel but hardly any difference really.
i worry about putting my crap fuel through the electric pumps on tdi's ?

yea my mpg dropped just below 31 mpg when changed to AT tyres and now with roof cross bars left on down to 27 mpg ish its terrable ant it :lol

have u noticed these cheap supermarket petrol stations have moved to bio diesel
5% at tesco and 7% at morrisons

so as it keeps going up watch for the percentage rise and ur engine coughing and spluttering

I thought they all had to add bio diesel now, isn't it 5% minimum by law?

Yep EU stipulation and another reason the worlds going hungry. Many thousands of acres wasted on rape etc just to meet EU rules :doh
I drive my trol now daily but still get low 20s :clap:lol at least bio helps the pain :thumb2

my datsun was gettin 32mpg since done 2" lift its down to 30mpg around town
