View Full Version : Is it me? . . .

Is it me, or does the club site feel like a ghost town lately? Has everyone migrated to adding their input to face book? if so why? Is it because it's easier to upload photo's and content?

Would a 'share' button help?

Would new easier to upload software help?

Maybe it's time for a re-vamp?

I hate to see the club in decline, even Briggie's joke seem to have dried up, come on fellow members get posting!

photos easy enough to upload, photobucket works well.

yep, but not like facebook, instant mobile uploads. I'm not saying this is the problem but it's worth thinking about.

Do you think it's gone quiet?

a little, but end of the day people have to contribute themselves

maybe the subscription cost needs looking at

absolutely, and that's my point, but why aren't they?

Is it cost? or just are forums like ours/this being superseded by social networking? :nenau

a tiny bit quieter, but id say its more time of the year. Everyones busy with work or whatever (i certainly am), not so sure about Facebook, seems quiet on there to me but I dont look very often!

Think u have to consider what folks use the site for i personally wanted to know about modding my truck and green lanning
This site is great for the technical info on trucks but recently it's green lanning and social side has dropped off so now spend time on another site and I think thus is true for others

if the cost you are refering to is the membership cost of £10, yes times are hard but this is the best £10 i have spent in the long run you will save this easily with all the help and support from fellow members...... thats if the membership is still £10 .........oops saying too much ....i think mines due soon...... Yes, we used to have a lively social side, is it the departure of our lady members that has slowed this down? Willow always made a good contribution :thumb2

I must admit I've been working away for a while and just come back but its just the same on my fishing forum site, things have slowed right down. It was doing well when i went away.
Face book, twitter, haven't done forums any good at all.
As to the membership cost £10 seems about right to me.

I'm NOT that busy at the mo and so end up on here too much :augie
Dead easy to post pics but agree some modernising would be good.
In particular an APP would be good :D
FB does my head in and sure dont use it for forum stuff:o
I spend a lot of time on the Aus site for the Patrol as they're ALL into modding and offroading just the trol.
Could it be this site is TOO generic :nenau

another very good point, maybe it's just the time of year, or are all such forums in decline?

This time of year should be busiest with cold dark nights i find on ebay it goes quiet in the summer when people are out and about not at computer and picks up when the clocks change.

Ten quid is a small price to pay compared to the damage your wallet would suffer if you had to take the truck somewhere to get it fixed every time.

Although i've only had a few things to attend to on mine, I reckon I've saved getting on towards the thick end of £400 in labour charges having done the work myself. And all down to the fantastic, helpful members on here and the pool of knowledge shared. :thumb2

I don't use facebook or twitter... just good ol' forums. I may not post a lot, but I'm always reading the threads for snippets of info....just in case I need it later.

£10 is a good price but it must put people off, having to pay for something and no idea how well it will help you.

Personally I don't think the £10 is an issue, it has always been a tenner and never gone up, so as the years have rolled on it has become relatively better value.

Another thing i have sort of half mulled over, so forgive me if it comes over badly, is:

4x4's are no longer as popular as they were, fuel, insurance, tax etc. and many manufacturers are moving away and toward soft roaders.

Later Nissan 4x4's do not have such a good reputation and as vehicles age people are moving on to new brands or away from 4x4's

All criticisms of this view are welcome :thumb2

Hi Plank and others.
I think it may be the time of year - too bloody cold to be outside working on your truck, so those jobs that can be put off until the weather improves will be! That is certainly the case here, even the sunny south of France, currently minus four centigrade and projected minus eight tomorrow. And like cnfabs says even ebay activity has slowed this winter, although that may be due to the economic situation and not the weather? Whatever the reason for diminished forum activity, I still visit most evenings and enjoy the chat and banter, 4X4 related or not, so keep the input going guys.

Is it me, or does the club site feel like a ghost town lately?

Well looking at the details, there have been nearly 100 people on the site today.

What we need is a bit of snow to get every body to contribute.

Many will want to know how to sort their auto hubs, and what tyres to get, when they get stuck.

it may jut be that a few 'big hitters' have gone awol, DaveD has left, though still a mate through FB. Paul/lacroupade doesn't seem to be posting much at the moment, and of course Zippy has let the side down and got a job! whimp! lol

I am guilty of the same thing as I often don't post for weeks/months but usualy in the summer when i've 'gone walk about' (to quote crocodile Dundee).

So come on lads knuckle down and get posting :thumb2

Well for me asside from post Christmas blues and being a mild SAD sufferer my R3mR is currently enjoying a reliable and trouble free spell.

Only real issue has been sorting out the rear suspension rubber with new bushes last year.
The short rear top axle links are Milner Off Road Polybushes (4) whilst the long lower rear suspension arm bushes (4) are genuine Nissan ones as the ride was too boneshaker with Polys all round.

Currently daydreaming about a replacement when this one reaches the point of being beyond economic repair.

Current alternatives are Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sportage or if I am really mad a Nissan Murrano !!

I have got a dongle in a drawer in my little office, but I don't know exactly where. I don't usually take the laptop or anything. It's nice to be away from all this stuff sometimes.
