Well my terrano failed his MOT today, failed on steering and brakes. Steering has been adjusted at the box but still not good enough. Brakes didn't do much supposingly. Think the MOT guy was a twat:augie

Either that or your brakes are crap and your steering doesn't work properly. ;)
How do you adjust the steering at the box ? Apart from tightening the linkage there's no 'adjustment' to be made is there?
well....did he elaborate? what part of the steering isn't good enough? what about the brakes, are they binding, not working, leaking, what?

Take it to another MOT garage as it is, then if it passes then you were right about the other MOT tester.:thumb2

It failed on:
1 RBT Service Brake efficiency 46%
2 Nearside steering pivot point has slight play
3 Rear bumper insecure

What's an RBT service brake when it's at home ? :nenau
Steering "Pivot" vague as beige :augie
Bumper falling off = zip ties :D

you've got to either go back to him and ask him to mark the faulty items or go get another MOT somewhere else. He may not be trying to pull a fast one and I have to say that I would rather change a faulty part and have a clear concience. This guy seems to be holding back details at the very least, may be in the hope you'll take it back to him to fix.

Yeah, we knew the brakes were not 100% but thay did work eg they locked front wheels up when braking hard and the steering is not 100% but with a bit of amusement seems fine, bumper....ok my friend reversed into her trailer.....women drivers:doh we might try another garage, my mate who's a mot tester said the guy was just been stupid about the steering as most terranos have slight play in the steering because of the setup. Think we'll let my friend take it for the MOT where he works :lol
Hi All
For the first Time in 6 Year mine failed, Brakes, New front discs pads rear shoes Small brake pipe rusted, Anti roll bar end? I did know the brakes were poor so i had already told him to change shoes, pads.
£ 300 the most I have paid for years.but I feel safer with the brakes Done
Took a couple of weeks for the brakes to bed in ok now but poor at first

Not too bad a price for what was done.
Regarding bedding in the brakes, I always burnish mine first. This involves driving at say 30 mph, apply the brakes slightly to bring the car to a stop, then drive a while to cool the discs, then repeat again and again. Very slightly harder each time.
Check now and again to check you are not cooking them. ( Smell usually) This can take 40 minutes to an hour, choose a quiet road though, or between 2 roundabouts a mile or so apart.
This will bed them in and improve their efficiency. Try not to use excessive braking for a while as this can score the discs badly.:thumb2
