I have just purchased a 2003 LWB Terrano.

I bought it in Burnley and drove it down to its new home in South wales.

One owner last 4 years and full service history.

I have never owned or fancied owning a 4X4 vehicle before, but I have just exchanged contracts on a house that is at the top of a steep road, and the drive is also quite steep. Unfortunatley my pride and joy sports car could not even make it over the hump up the drive so it had to go :(

I chose the terrano because I do need 7 seats occasionly, it was well priced compared to other 4x4s, the reliability of other vehicles was suspect ,but most importantly it will run on B100 :thumbs

Things which I don't like:

3500 rpm at 70mph is way to high, it should have a 6th gear.

The aircon doesn't work.

My insurance cost way more than my group 20 insurance sports car at around £450

Is both slow and too noisy.

Other than that It looks like a strong well built work horse that will meet all my needs.

Catch you later

Tony

4x4s are cooler though, Welcome to the forum.

Did you look at getting quotes from other companies? £450 is a bit high.

Std truck has gay size tyres on it:doh Stick some decent sized ones on and that'll correct the gearing too:thumbs
Slow compared to sports car maybe, but it shouldn't be sluggish. Has it been serviced etc:augie
Where by to are you butt ?

What is the correct tyre size for a 16 " alloy then?

The sat nav showed 70mph when I was travelling at an indicated 79 - a variance of 13%!

Yes car has been fully serviced and it does pull OK, but compared to light 300 BHP sports car most things feel slow lol

How long do I have to wait before I can post in the other sections? I have technical questions I would like to ask and wanted posts to make?

There will be alot of difference between a sports car and any 4x4. They all handle different to cars, they all drink fuel more but you wont be stuck in the snow like car drivers or a muddy field :lol:lol:lol

SAY WHAT???

Something slightly amiss there........the gearing on the Terrano against indicated speedo is such that in top gear, the AUTOMATIC does 30mph per 1000rpm, while the MANUAL does about around 30mph per 1250rpm. SO at 3500rpm, in a manual, you should be nudging an indicated 90mph.

Against the satnav there should be a 9-10% variance (over-read) at 70mph so its not THAT far out.

So as suggested, check tyre sizes and inflation. OEM tyre size on 16s is a 235/70/R16 and tyre pressure is 26psi front and rear unless towing heavy weights. Any different pressure will exacerbate tyre wear.

You'll find plenty here when you pay a tenner to make your life soooooo much easier. Best £60 you will pay is for a K&N 57i induction kit thaqt will help it breathe a bit better and improve fuel consumption by 2-3mpg.
