hi folks, just wondered how many are still running td models?

also who has the lowest mileage? mine is a 1996 (one of the last on a p reg) and has just turned 100k.

out of the 17 td terranos i have broken in the last 3 years i have only seen 2 with lower miles! (99k and 92k)

and yes i do have too much time on my hands!

I might win this one..:thumb2

Had it from new in 1995, it has done a genuine 91k miles
Just in case I haven't mentioned it before, I've had it 16+ years.

Probably the longest ownership on the site..

Do I win a prize....? :nenau

No body rust, no panels replaced and still on original suspension bushes.
Same auto hubs, same gearbox, all running gear original.
Front ARB drop links changed several times.

Best regards, Rustic

Always impressed with your stats Rustic :thumb2
I'm convinced the earlier ones were much better made or treated for rust differently. My older ones were as good as rust free, but TDi ones I've owned and seen are tea bags when you get into them:augie
Keep it up :D
PS mines done 176000 and is more of Trigger's broom truck, hardly anything remains of the original:doh

Thanks for that, it is garaged when at home, the garage is an integral part of the house.

Wait for this..
if either of the cars are wet in the garage,

Wait for it......

I switch on a de-humidifier......:augie

Saves my tools getting rusty as well..:naughty

If the mav needs something, it is easy to sort it in hail rain or snow.
I also have a hosepipe by the door that I use to wash the salt off in the winter. Also a power washer and underbody lance.

I have removed the inner liners and plastic trim and coated everything in wax oyl, before putting them back. I have a jar of it ready for action.
I agree that the earlier models were better, and maybe the Ford version even better. But there are many hours of work that have gone into it.

It started when I was young, when cars in the 70's were rotten within 3 years, I was always chasing rust and rot.

When I find a good vehicle I keep it, we had an Ambassador 13 years, and that was rust free at the time of sale.

I am thinking of a dateless reg, like 123 ABC or one of the irish ones, or RUS 71C ( RUSTIC) would be good...:lol:lol:lol

Colin, if you're keeping it, drill some holes in the sills to drain them :augie
We did the body lift on your old one the other day and found the sills were mush:eek:
Like mine they looked fine till poked, or landed on :doh They just rot away from the inside:(

she's a nice truck , but an auto. i dont need 7 seats anymore but do need 4wd and something that can tow . im currently looking into some new business ideas to create an income around the kids .
secretly watching a 2 door disco sat on someones drive for a year or so . but id prefer another swb tdi (manual) but more as a work horse than a play thing
i have the space here and the contacts , just need to get the income going in the right direction .

ideally id like to work from or near home with hours to suit me . so all ideas are welcome

as for the holes fez id be inclined to put 4 neat finger sized holes along the cill .
one of my old customers has a 04 plate tdi. (aka the sponge) its so riddled with rust its untrue showing 70k never been off road

Someone suggested I drill a hole in the bottom of my boat to drain the bilge....  :doh

:lol :lol :lol

Regarding the sill issue, there are only a few slots on each side and you have to get underneath with a torch and a cable tie, and clear them out.

Mud, rust flakes, underseal or even waxoyl can easily block them.
If the MOT station jack it up on the sills, :doh this can crush them too...

The drains are a particular problem, made worse if you have side steps.

When you ford through muddy water, some will enter the sills and stay there like putty, forever damp, made worse by the sun roof drains that go into the sill at the front of the sill.

Don't wait for the Automatic sill drain action to take place, ie rotten holes in your sills. :doh
Act now.:bow
