My Terrano - first day off the flat stuff.

I've not had it long but the T2 had a taste of the rougher stuff today. Not serious but some rough tracks to try to get to some interesting geology :-)

EVERYONE is telling me I need bigger tyres :D.

I wanted to try to find a company called Fjallasport over here but they apparently went under in the crash, or at least "scaled down". They did various kits for the T2 from 33 to 38" and I wondered if they had any left. The body kits I have seen round town are neat and there are loads on 35's so it is obviously doable. fair chunk of money though ....

You can just about get 33s on if you hammer flat the metal seam in the wheelarch.....raising the torsion bars to get the front level helps to avoid the worst of any contact as well. But my advice would be to save bashing anything and just get a tyre thats slightly smaller than that....any difference in ride height will be minimal.

And I so envy you living there - love to see more pictures of your outing!

Ofcourse you need 35s absolutely :sly Just tell me how to beef up the steering to cope with them :doh
2" body lift is plenty big enough to get 35s on but gearing will be a pain:o
I guess with 38s the back axle needs moving further back and the front must need some serious attention like maybe extending the chassis :nenau

yep seen axles moved on trolls, so arches are cut out with new centres
extending the wheel base, and longer prop shafts.

thats the way to go on the ice fields so it seems.

No problem on a Trol but the front of the T2 is a pain :o
You can't make any more room for the front wheels at floor pan area and as there's no where to go:doh
So I guess the hole front end needs extending and I think the only way to simply do that would be to cut the chassis. Then extend it by 2 0r 3 inches :sly
Alternatively all the suspension and steering mounts and locations need shifting and that would be a challenge for sure:augie
I wish there was some more detail from these guys :D

I'll try to track them down and see what I can find. I'll also see if I can find a big wheel T2 and lubricate the owner with some beer to let me have a look. They all go big tyres for going up on the glaciers. Used to be 35 were girlie wheels and 38's proper ones. Now 38's are pfffft and 42's to 46's are getting common.
Oh and the Arctic truck boys know there stuff but the prices ..... Holy S*** !!!!

yeah artic would be first place i'd be heading if lottery came up lol.

fancy shipping a stock ish truck over, exploring then getting modded
and some more testing/exploring.

agree on t2, the front end wants treating as a sub frame and moving
forward, or ditched for a live front end as we've discussed before. i'm
sure the back end would be a relatively easy remount or longer
suspension arms.
