hi lads and lasses, we just went out today and put a deposit down on a nice looking terrano, i hope we haven't slipped up, we know nothing about them i am afraid.

My first thought was to ask the salesman about the timing belt and "has it been changed", the chap said it hasn't got one !!!!! and i believed him ? probably my first mistake.

My second mistake the Clutch pedal is rather high, higher than the Brake Pedal, he pointed to an adjustable stop to bring it down a bit lower !, is that the correct thing to do, how do i find out if i should adjust it somewhere else ?, or is the clutch worn out ?..

And finally, the radio has a cassette player in it, with NO cd changer under the passenger seat, can i please ask, what is the most economical way to get a CD player in this motor?, somehow get an Aperture Adapter and fit a normal DIN CD player, which we already have. Or perhaps get a cd changer to fit under the passenger seat along with the required wiring harness OR get a Nissan CD radio with the CD changer built into the "head unit" (i think its called)

Otherwise i think the motor is pretty near perfect

welcome Tim, plenty of advice on here. W reg should be a good buy, lower road tax than the later ones.

Nope no camshaft belts or chains they are gear driven so no probs there.

I dont listen to much music. I just replaced the radio with one from ALDI, radio,cd,and other inputs about £30.

Remember only use four wheel drive on loose, muddy, snowy surfaces or you will get transmission wind up, wots wind up? you may ask, you will know when it occurs.

If you have freewheeling front hubs, you should with Wreg, when four wheel drive is engaged move off gently so the hubs lock in without a bang because this may damage them.

Enjoy your new motor, I enjoy mine, regards bri...

Thanks for that info buddy, very helpful indeed, i am well pleased about gears for the timing !!

Aldi for the CD player, how did you get over the problem with the dashboard trim/fascia and stuff ?

We have had a couple of Daihatsu Fourtracks before this Terrano, they both failed the MOT due to severe rust !, i hope this one will last a bit longer, yeah we have had experience with the FreeWheel and Four Wheel drive switches and stuff like that on the Four track, so thanks for your further tips on this subject.

We looked at two Terranos today, both of them had the same problem of the Door Shutting Seal falling out of the groove in the Door Window Frame !

Hi Tim,
Welcome to the club, my door seals did this once, it was becaus ethe clips that hold them in place had collapsed, quick trip down local scrap yard and got some more had no probs since, as for rust check the rear wheel arches, and a good coat of underseal wouldn't go amiss, lots on here recommend waxoyl, myself i used a ruberized paint.

Regards
Steve

Welcome to the club Timmy....post a photo of your dash because one of the variants has an oddball stereo faceplate that needs a £60-70 replacement if you want to fit an aftermarket stereo.

I think I have a 6-DC changer somewhere out of my MkIII if you've got the cable under the passenger seat? £25 inc postage (which is about £8 of it).

PM me if interested

Wow buddy, i had a very good rummage around under the passenger seat, there was no wiring anywhere, i fear it has never had a CD changer fitted !, i also fear that the wiring loom to go from the radio to (your) the CD Changer would be far to much money.

I will, if i remember ?, post a picture of the radio/dash, but that won't be until next weekend now, this is when we should expect delivery. Thanks

Hi there and welcome, multi changer is sometimes under the drivers seat,
places to check is for Rust under the front wheel archs were the inner wing meets the foot well were the seam is spot welded, also under the radator there is a panel that rots, also look in bonnet were the inner wing meets the part that goes to the chassis, also under the rear seats, and the sills at the rear, they are the places to check if any rot get it bact to seller to sort or you may have it to sort next MOT:eek: if all them ar ok you have a good un and enjoy it and look after it and it will look after you:thumbs Laurie Ash

I wonder, If I asked nicely... :D

If someone could take pictures of all the areas to check for rust on the T2, also create a list of anything else to check (Mechanical etc) that would be a great help for a prospective buyer like me, and possibly a good item for the download section. :bow
