I don't believe there is any but try around 300mm to 60 litres. Its only a small improvement but noticeable on the T2.....I've done it regularly for years.

if the improvement outweighs the expense then A small improvement is fine by me , just need some acetone now :thumbs

even better - i was assured by two Exxon scientific bods that it improves the diesel burning process and has a slightly greater effect with veg oil. Just don't expect turbo performance and you won't be disappointed. Takes 2-3 tankfuls before it smooths out.

I am even assured (but have never tried it) that if you mix about 200mm of water with the acetone BEFORE adding it to the tank it remains missible, i.e. in solution, and helps even further.

Surprisingly it looks like it might work there too....just Google "acetone in petrol"

All I would say is, don't expect miracles, its only a small difference but on the T2 diesel it certainly smooths things a bit and quietens the engine note just a tad.

Just be sure its pure acetone and not nail polish remover which is contaminated.

Ok, the temptation got to much for me, my tdi is running on a diesel/acetone mix (250ml/60 litres) so far it feels smoother and seems to have more power. Of course this could be the placebo effect, so will be monitoring fuel compsumption for at least 3 tankfulls, if time permitsi will report back.
As a starting point doing 66 miles a day, a mixture of a and b roads compsumption has been roughly 360 miles per 60 litres.
Time will tell.

My first thought before reading the report was possible damage to plastic parts, just wipe some nail varnish remover over a scrap acetate sheet, it melts, sorry disolves the surface.

Acetone disolves many man made fibres as well.

But those writing the report have considered this and have done many tests with different strengths of acetone.

I wonder what effect the acetone may have on the engine oil if it gets past the piston rings.

I guess it shouldn't as it burns with the fuel....:nenau


I personally wouldn't add the acetone in one dose, but mix it first in say 5 litres of fuel to help dispersion in the tank.

Agreed mixed mine in the 5 litre fuel carrier before putting it in the tank and being very careful to wipe any drips of the paintwork immediately.
Definately seems to be a power increase, useing a higher gear coming out of bends and up the short sharp inclines i encounter, but to early to be 100% certain.

No need honestly, I just sling mine in neat before a refill from a suitably small bottle.

But the effect, although minor, is real, not your imagination....its just the results I get. :thumb2

I've never tried its effects on paint but it is a solvent after all, not a stripper so I'd be surprised if the effect was that quick. I'll give it a go at the weekend on an old banger.
