I have been reading about new proposals for Bacon and the water content typically being 10% as a result of the wet curing process and it got me thinking about dog food.

My Mum's dog has lost some weight and the Vet put her on a high protein diet. When my Mum used up the dog food I was tasked with trying to find something similar. I was stunned with my findings.

Typical tinned dog foods were around 5% protein and 85% water according to the labels. The Vets food was 10.6% protein with 80% water. I eventually found some moist type dry dog food at Tesco......21% protein 22% water.

No wonder pet food is such a money spinner its mostly water !!

I hate the watery bacon, the stuff you get a white coloured gunge in the pan. Proper Dry Cured is the best but not often proper Dry Cured available. Fortunes Smokery in Whitby mainly cure and smoke Kippers but they also started smoking Bacon only available from Fortunes or a butchers in Whitby. It's the business is that stuff.

As for the dog food we use a good quality dry food (Burns), when ever we have tried tinned food it's always made the dog's ill.

Water is disguised in all kinds of foods but at least it probably harmless compared to some of the crap they put in foods.

BTW this thread is 4x4 related as I got to Whitby in my Terrano and my Dog gets transported around in my Terrano:lol

I would not feed my dogs commercial food if you give it me, they have raw meat and a few bones, that is when they don't catch their own, all our jacks have lived to 14/15 years no probs, as for the crap we are fed I was in the food transport industry years ago and some of the things I saw then shook me, and it can only have got worse, seriously thinking of getting our own pigs and chickens etc, but at the mo just no time, plus don't know nothing about them, yet, Rick
