View Full Version : Patrol V Defender
Not sure if this has been posted before, but here goes.
A little bit of a bias on the reporting, and shame on TOR Magazine for letting them use their Patrol to do it as well.

Defender has 50% more ground clearance???????
What utter tripe. Under the diff where it matters it has 50% more really, is that defender monster truck????
Off to find the real specs now back soon.

It also said that on landies diff locks were fitted as standard? Like heaters I thought these were optional extras.

Defender 110 Patrol
Wheelbase 2794mm 2970
Length 4639mm Trek: 5090 / Aventura: 5145
Width 1790mm 1940
Height 1968mm 1855
Track 1486mm 1605F/1625R
turn circle 6.4/7.18 6.1m (Depends on landies tires 7.50x15/235x16)
Max gradient 45° 39
Apprch angle 49° 37
Depart angle 35° 31
Ramp break 150° 27
Traver angle 35° 48
Ground clear 314mm Trek: 215 / Aventura:220
Wading depth 500mm 700mm
Ok so despite being wider and longer with a longer wheelbase the Patrol has a tighter turning circle.
Its wider track and lower roof line make for a much more stable vehicle on side slopes.
But it does loose out to the landy on depart, approach and ramp over angles, but lets face it the Patrol only needs winch type bumper to sort 2 of those out.
An despite around 100mm difference in ground clearance (surely they are measuring that differently) the patrol has 200mm more wading depth.
Landy comes on 235 16s whereas patrol comes on bigger wheels. Trek: 265/70 R16 / Aventura: 275/65 R17. So unless Patrol diff is the size of a dustbin lid, how can the landy have more clearance. Landrover must be measuring off the chassis, Nissan being honest and measuring the diff.
Prices fairly similar till you factor in that everything is an option on the landy, thats if its available. Me I'd go for a Patrol (or a Trooper) if I really wanted a big capable
