the other day i had a flat tyre, thought nothing of it and got a new one put on, in the flat tyre wasa screw, not one i would use or have seen but by the looks of it was a self tapper for roofing, after i had new tyre fitted the next day someone had written on it 'FICKO' i thought nothing of it probably one of the kids, few days later the writing had more or less gone, when visiting Plank today the writing was there again but thought nothing of it, bit of a deja moment, gone out tonight and my tyre is flat again, the new one, was fine earlier when at Plank's thought maybe it hadn't been seated right at the tyre place but then i noticed my securtity light on the drive has been moved aswell as its sensor, light has been moved to point towards back of the drive instead of the car and the sensor is pointing down towards the ground, on closer inspection the writing that sys `FICKO` is written the opposite way up to what it was written before, i suspect someone is purposly puncturing my tyre, whats wierd is why the same tyre? what can i do to monitor this? i have a camcorder but other than leavin it t record what else can i do?

Hi, When I first started with a security system in 1992, I used a PIR to start a VCR, this led to presecution & a guilty plea from the guy doing criminal damage. You may have seen it on Neighbours from hell
You could use your video camera if it has a remote record switch, some cheap security camera's have built in PIR <£50
Dont expect any sympathy from the police if you catch the culprit, they were seriosly hostile when I showed them the first tape, so they lost it, I had a copy, that really pissed them off
Leave it to us sir they said, do not do our job for us.

When I was a Custody Sergeant in Ilkeston we had a series of criminal damage offences against the home of a local Asian Shopkeeper they were damaging his car and breaking windows. On his own iniiative he installed a camera that he set to record overnight on his video recorder. I do not remeber the make but it cost him about £100 and that was back in 1998 sometime. The picture quality was good enough to identify face some 15-20 feet away.

The first night he set it up he caught 3 youths on camera and within an hour my officers had arrested two of the suspects and a third was arrested some 4 hours later. I had them all charged with Racially Aggravated Criminal Damage and two were denied bail. All convicted two received custodial sentences. Our shift were delighted with the result and the initiative of the victim.

If you do not get the right response and attitude from your local Police I would seek an audience with the station Inspector and if he lets you down then make a formal complaint.

Sorry to hear you've had grief :o Once again I'm so glad I live in the sticks ;)
The other week some little urchin had carved his way through the mud on mine and had written the slogan, "MONSTA" :augie I thought about correcting his spelling but eventually left in street spell :D
Good luck with catching the scrote :)

You think they'd have at least have written 'anghenfil' but that takes too long I suppose LOL.

I hate this kind of thing......whenever it rains in Wales I remind myself of all the reasons why its great to live here.

Good luck catching someone Ricoh. Try finding a webcam that can be movement-triggered then you just leave your PC running indoors.

such helpful advice from Team Wales :augie

It sounds like kids tricks to me rather than anything malicious, they will get bored son enough. It has been said but perhaps CCTV signs and a dummy camera would be a good start, maybe even rigging up a light that you can leave on so they can't use darkness as a cover.

I use an old VCR, I made a circuit that in effect connects to the record button within the VCR and is triggered by a motion detector.
It remains on for 20 seconds or more if it is re-triggered.

It monitors the front and we used to see the electric/gas reader man, just putting the " Not in note.... " through the door and he never rung the bell first.... :doh

It also records sound and when "sellers" visit the door, they are soon aware they are on video.

We had a visit from a financial adviser... (Waste of Time) he spent several minutes adjusting his tie and suit cuffs before ringing the bell. :lol :lol

I have a monitor at the back of the house and I can choose if I am in or not.....

I have left the wife standing in the rain for hours...... :lol :lol

(Joke not really true... no wives were harmed in the making of this post :lol )
At least not my wife.

had a bit of trouble a few years ago i rigged up a red led light in the garage that could be seen through garage window never had any more trouble.
could you rig something similar up with a dummy camera and red led.
failing that a trip wire and something on end of it that will make a hell of a racket.:thumb2

I would leave the light where it is, realign it, then re wire it so the get a shock when they move it, oh make sure there's a tray of water for them to stand in as well.

Had a similar problem and used some fishing nylon as a tripwire to very good effect.A few tins or bucket etc make a great racket and scare them off for a while. You could also connect a 12v siren to the light which would sound when they trigger the light. If you mount the light out of reach or temporarily remove the bulb and use a standard 12v power supply (small charger etc) to power a mini siren they will bugger off at high speed.By removing the light bulb they would have no idea what triggered the alarm.

sorry to hear of the aggro.

theyre moving the sensor for obvious reasons and even putting it up higher probably wont help.

The key question is why the same wheel? answer is probably its the easiest target. is it in the most shadow? is it easiest to get to? is it out of your line of sight?

work out which and modify :thumb2

we have a decent security spot light that was only £25 from b&q (suprisingly :D ). It stays on very low during the hours of darkness (negligible electric consumption) irrespective of the sensor . Good enough to give enough light to make the tossers think twice. if the sensor picks up movement it sparks up as a normal pir floodlight.

I suspect the side they keep attacking may be in shadow or darkness?

Maybe 2 of these lights?

cctv is useful but not the silver bullet. A quick chat with some of our more dodgy members of society would reveal theyre not remotely worried about them.

Things that most burglars and criminal damage merchants dont like is light and noise.Prevent rather than follow up by installing some :thumb2

Theres no reason why you cant instal a covert pir sensor pointing at the problem area (dead cheap) wired to a klaxon, seen that done. Theyll **** themselves when they trigger that :D

No need, a handy washing line prop, general bit of wood left laying about , pole from the rack of an aerial fitters van , even seen one pulled off the wall with a lassoo ;)

We didnt feature part of our county on tele as one of the most crime ridden estates around without a bit of ingenuity from the scrotes :naughty

Doesnt mention going to / switching recording equipment ? may be missing that bit but its only any good when you have the tele on.

Doesnt mention resolution either , the old ebay rule of thumb, if its crap dont mention it :naughty

I suspect that may be an entry type camera :thumb2

cant really do that incase it wakes kids up and it would go off all night as we are plagued by foxes, stupid ban on fox hunting

Had a caravan stolen some years back so fitted 4 cameras bought from wickes. They run to a switcher unit which allows you to watch them on the tv. Another unit turns on a vcr ,recordable dvd or hard drive on the computer when anything activates them depending how you have it wired. think it can also be linked to comp as a web cam so you can access from any computer.

can't find the system on wickes site any more but I'm sure some one else does a simular system.

Cameras are smaller than a fag packet, record sound and in colour and glow red when activated so good visual deterant

just redesigning our patio and caravan storage area.

had trespass before mainly due to neighbours gardens
not being secure. pathetic damage not theft, using
tools left out in same neighbours garden.

looking at several low watt bulb lanterns to create
subtle lighting, and coupe of dirty great pirs at first flor
window height on house well out of tamper reach.

looked at these solar jobs but not convinced will create
enough light during winter nights.

I tried solar lights for the same thing and you're right they don't work so well in the winter. You end up with a lot of hours of darkness.

I have found that putting a 150 watt bulb (halogen tube) in a fitting that comes with a 500 watt, lights up the garden just as well without swallowing all your KW's and costing you a fortune :thumb2

This could be your answer, I got one yesterday, does what is says on the box, not used it on the road yet but plan to soon, has motion detect so could catch the vandal overnight. just under £30 delivered but you need a SD card.
