Hi, have just joined, mainly to get advice on my maverick, took it for a full valet on friday, went to collect, flat battery and would not start, AA called, jump start, no go, tow start, no go, he thinks starter motor, or perhaps far more sinister, am now very worried. Any advice?

Battery leads are famous for looking ok, but being electrically insulating! Give them both a good look and tug.

turbo diesel, AA patrol said when towed, and put into gear, could not feel any resistance? like there was no compression?

AA tried new battery, and at one point, got a puff of smoke from starter motor

check ignition switch. what did these valeters do, did they clean the engine bay?? if so, how?

check the positive wire and clamp all the way to solenoid too.

What's a valeter? My trucks not got one.

Seriously.... working going in, paid money, problem is the valeters, not yours I think. Take legal advice.

if they have steam cleaned your engine, this is bad. if they used pressure systems, then they may have forced moisture into the cylinders. BUT, could easily just be ignition switch, a connection that has been knocked and so on, its all down to what they did to valet you rcar.

Serves you right for having a vallet :doh as my son would say, GAAAAY :lol
As far as not starting, then as stated above but if not started with a tow then I'd be worried too:nenau
It could be clutch related possibly, or maybe a soaked MAF.
Have you now got a good battery , charged the old one and checked cabling etc?

Open the air filter housing and make sure the filter is dry. If it's wet youmay of had water sucked it to engine which aint good at all.

nope , no good at all .... water does not compress inside a cylinder ...... something has to give way

If steamed, you probably have water in the electrics - never heard of any getting into the engines themselves before...and I have owned 3 valeting companies before over the years.

Often, it will get into the electrics - ecu's (though the terrano should be inside) and other places such as fuse boxes etc. Check fusible link as well. Undo all your connectors, and blow out with an air-line, them give a spray of weasel or similar to dry out.

If it isn't an easy job - I would be asking for the valeters liability insurance details. I had a kid do this to a cherokee once, that cost a few grand in work.
