I know its feasible and there are various ways of doing it, but just wanted to know if anyone here has had hands-on experience of dumping a movie from Sky+ box to laptop.....I'm guessing I need a PCMCIA TV card or similar but as its only one hard-to-find film I didn't really want to go to that expense unless I have to....:(

I've got the film on my Sky+ box - its Black Sky, really amazing film about the first private space flight by Bert Rutans team.....excellent watch and I wanted to put it on DVD for my dad (he's a luddite LOL). Been shown on Discovery a few times but can't find the usual torrent or I'd get it that way.

i'm told that Torrent Butler is the best strting point for movies. Not that I'd indulge in illegal downloading myself. Oh no.

Borrox - nearly there, but my mtorrent client tells me its an invalid URL and won't connect :(

why not use a skart lead & copy it to a DVD recorder! Cos I'd have to buy a DVD recorder LOL:lol

I have yet to find a free torrent site thats 100% reliable. I use one thats got relatively closed membership and it typically costs me $25 periodically for 500Gb of download....thats anywhere from 300-500 films.....and with massive download speeds and reliable virus-free files on everything posted its well worth it! :thumbs

Can't get Black Sky to work there either, so downloading Alice in Wonderland cos I deleted it before her indoors got to watch it.:augie

does this site throttle you at all?

And I'm a bit concerned about this site TBH....it talks about bittorrent being a 'peer to peer' service, when the whole point of torrent technology is that it ISN'T! Limewire and other such shite services were P2P but torrent doesn't normally work that way.....and before you ask 'so what', P2P has two major disadvantages....(i) the fact you are downloading one file from one source makes it easy for the host to infect it, and (ii) it makes it a piece of piss for anyone to track and prove your downloading.....call me paranoid but.....

clive will explain further no doubt , but as far as i understand the files are spread amongst loads of different seeds , making it hard to track because each seed only holds a part of the file ..... summat like that anyway , im sure clive will expand :thumb2

no thats exactly right, which is why I'm puzzled when they are talking about P2P cos its totally different. Oh well, I'll see what the end product is like!

ive downloaded dozens of albums ( purely for research purposes :augie ) ..... and have no probs , but thats not to say you will , im not a tinternet eggspurt , i guess you try it and see , ive never downloaded video files tho , so please let me know if its ok :thumb2

i think you look at the colour of the bar ... if its green its ok , red is unsafe

but .... as soon as its finished downloading , stop the file ..... then extract contents

Thats why I stick to a site that costs me a few dollars.....when I splurge my $25 I get 500Gb of download without having to reciprocate, i.e. no uploading from me to them to cramp my bandwidth.

I must have d/loaded >2000 fillums and watched but a few....they are for my retirement LOL.
