Not sure those are set in stone yet - one of them is impossible anyway.

Been extensive discussion about it elsewhere and the gist of it is that detecting illegally fitted HIDs is difficult and not easy to enforce because the law is a grey as it can be on the subject.

And as regards chipping, thats an EU suggestion for countries where chipping is illegal, which it isn't of course in the UK, so why on earth would they bother checking for it.....and more to the point how? Answer is they won't.

Summary is, HID thing is a possibility but the law needs clarifying, and the chip thing is a non-starter because having one is not an offence in any way.:thumb2

So if this is coming in, does this mean you guys with the Tdi won't currently fail if the Mil light is on.

This was a question a while back:nenau

Does't affect me, I have the Td.

No reason why it should unless the tester can prove it evidences a fault that in itself is failable?

The chip thing just needs a small amendment to the RTA to allow it become part of the MOT. The directives usually come first, then the local country laws are amended to fit. Thing to check for is whether the UK have a derogation or a date when the Directive must be implemented by. That will let you know whether it's coming in or not. Check with your local MP, he should be able to find out.

I don't think we are likely to see it TBH Liam; what the EU rule says is that, where chipping is illegal, it should be tested for at MoT. Chipping itself has not actually been outlawed per se by the EU, just in some countries.
