horrific mate, i really feel for them, and also for the people who may be affected by the ensuing tsunami which may or may not affect people in australia/south america as well as other areas ....... sad times indeed :(
interesting link here clive of a site that monitors earthquakes worldwide ...... very scarey stuff indeed
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/
Hmm seen the film 2012 right, would seem the world is tearing itself apart?
Weather getting worse in every country and more and more of these natural disasters.
i patiently await the comments from some people blaming 4x4 owners for causing global warming and contributing to the recent phenonema ..... oh wait a minute , thats 4x4 related omg
Hmm cars in general are a tiny issue compared to MASSIVE industrial production...
Thats where they need to start

Are there more or are we just more aware, due to the media?
8.9 i think it was, but personally didnt feel anything, dont mean
sound flippent, but in proportion. Could be tied in to NZ stuff,
these are happening all the time. Last night thought was that
sun spot activity was related to fierceness of recent winters.
There are so many variables, then what was it the butterfly
effect or was that the 90's buzz word?
And further more the highways agency send their own 4x4's up and down motorways simply to put cones out behind broken down vehicles so dont know how they can blame 4x4 ;)

just woke up to watch vid from japan, that river with cardboard
boxes going over a weir, err no shite they're cars, then a wave
washing buildings and buses away.
scary stuff, mind atleast they expect it isnt most of japan on a
fault line, like much of pacific so build with it in mind. guess will
be tunsami that causes the most loss.
yeah I agree that the media is simply reporting more these days, and yes, im fairly sure that whole area is a fault line, and earthquakes arent anything new to japan,
see here for the fault line
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://pinknpurplelizard.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/fault-line-map.gif&imgrefurl=http://pinknpurplelizard.com/blog/%3Ftag%3Dfault-lines&h=358&w=548&sz=51&tbnid=p6TLLJGQio12lM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=133&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dearthquake%2Bfault%2Blines&zoom=1&q=earthquake+fault+lines&hl=en&usg=__1NrEtCQ772c1MdKkb7fA0104uGY=&sa=X&ei=pup5TbG_IMqKhQe4sLzeBg&ved=0CCkQ9QEwAg
so its not the world tearing itself apart like in 2012 thankfully, just an unfortunate consequence of the area.
the " pacific ring of fire " seems to ring a bell

If you look at the figures for man-made CO2 versus what Mother Nature pumps out, our input is insignificant. Man-made global warming is a complete load of tosh.
But those pics are horrendous aren't they.....absolutely unstoppable. Fifth worst quake worldwide since 1900 apparently.
And the wave is bigger than many Pacific islands they say so we haven't heard the last of it.....:(

Awful, we are so lucky to live in this country.
I was thinking that too, there does seem to be more natural disasters going on recently. We haven't looked after our world very well, perhaps the gods are angry...

Yup, im sure our efforts to knack the world are pretty insignificant and the wheel is simply going around as it has over the last few million years .
Maybe Nostradamus was only a few years out ;)

We can clone things, fly man to the moon, split atoms but one thing we can't do and that's control mother nature.
Be it snow, floods, droughts, earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, what ever happens we are only here for the ride so hang on and enjoy life to the fullest.
My thoughts are with Japan
i see a nuclear power stations gone bang, looks like well all be dead from radiation sickness before ol ma nature gets her way lol!
I dont think we in England are at risk from a radiation leak in Japan. Its such a tragedy what has happened. This is a developed, advanced country and in the space of a few hours its suffered a major disaster that the whole world is watching. Its amazing to see what nature can do to such a place.

Only 21 months to go before the big one ;)
