After shutting down a year ago almost to the day theyve been bought and are reopening as from today

thats is good news :thumb2
on the opposite side of the coin 'Stokes Forgings' a large automotive parts manufacturer are making the bulk of their staff redundant tomorrow, and the rest before the summer :(
business is booming for them making parts for Tata and (believe it or not) Rover - but it's all moving overseas :(

Tata is a dirty word around here. They were going to take on the Redcar blast (part of the steel works)but backed out at the last moment in a very ungentlemanly way.

I think and (i emphasise think), from my involvement with the company i mentioned that TATA may be behind this too :doh

And our favourite non-dom Lakshmi Mittal trousers another fat tax-free wedge.
Obscene in principle but good for jobs.:augie

here we go..........

Tata owned certain bits but the heart of the plant is the blast (as in what i was on about :thumb2) is the bit im not sure about. I dont think Tata owned and closed it :nenau
Its that where Tata pissed everyone off though and now it looks as though theyve sold off other parts to SSI as well as whoever owned the majority share seling off the blast :thumb2
Best bit though is the hundreds of jobs being reinstated

yeah a year later and the ones who lost there jobs also lost there houses in the mean time , loads of stress for the families and the divorce that also comes with it . split up families everywhere .
the ones that survived a majority of them have increased there debt . others have probably moved away .
to late for some, but gonna be plenty of polish wanting jobs lol!

maybe for some but SSI have been in touch with many ex corus employees cv chasing and theres certainly enough folk in the area to get it up and running. They were talking with one of the bokes who reluctantly led the shut down team and is now chomping at the bit after being taken back on to get it going again.
yes some will have had problems, no doubt i have every sympathy, been there, but we're as tough as fcuk round here.
I would also expect SSI to take the chance to make sure non of the dead wood is taken back on :thumb2
I think some folk miss the point a bit. Until yesterday there was no blast furnace on Teesside. Now there is.
I was told the problem is their steel was too good. It was over and above acceptable quality. That cost and those producing acceptable sold for less.
i hope it works, country needs to make things not just buy from china! if hs rail comes off there gonna need track lol!
