clunk

driving in huddersfield today , i got a massive clunk from the front end of my car , i could feel it sort of shake the car :eek:, so i stopped and looked at the car , obviously i cant crawl underneath , but i looked around the car , everything seemed normal .... ride height etc , nothing seemed to be hanging down ( on the car :augie ) .... so i drove it a bit further and it seems ok , as though nothing is wrong , it hasnt done it since , any ideas ? .... it was a really loud clunk that shook the car .

maybe you ran over something that got flicked up and hit the underside of your car?

I had a clunk on mine, driving straight, when I got home I rocked the car side to side, push / pulling on the roof part above the drivers door, It clunked from the front near side, lower arb joint. Replaced both problem solved.:thumbs

Yours might be this or a suspension bush.

no karin , ive done that before :doh... it wasnt like that , the car really shook with a loud clunk , but seems ok now , im really worried , i felt it through the steering and my seat :eek:

i was driving in a straight line too rustic , but its just passed its m.o.t fgs

I had a Sierra once I drove over a small block of wood, it hit under the car, then the engine cut out 5 seconds later.
This was the safety impact switch that cuts the fuel, so it was easy to reset.

This was often a problem at airports if you throw a suitcase into the boot.:doh The sensor was under the spare wheel in the boot recess.

dunno mate, unless you ran over something, I would not have thought the auto hubs could cause that, just before Xmas I ran over a patch in the road with the os front wheel, the patch (about the size of a dinner plate and 100mm thick) jumped out of the hole and straight into my os rear tyre, it compressed the tyre (and these are not low profile are they) and went right through to the inner part of the alloy rim and smashed a hole in it, need less to say I was not best pleased, claim now in to the council, pictures taken

id say something in the road Pete. Its howling out there, theres bits of tree in the roads, its wet, its windy.....

Happened to me too the other week... huge thump under the car felt it through my feet, steering and seat (was breaking at the time).. lloked all over and nothing.. done a 1000 miles in it since then and no probs.... as said likely something in the road flicked up and hit the underside of the car
