which one is right ?
sorry to be a pain , but ive been told that my insurance /tax etc is now invalid , so im not allowed to have this car on the road
the letters mean sommat ie country of orign model/engine etc do a google search mate
but dvla want the vin/chassis number , which one is which ?
if you can find out how to decode it itll be easier to tell which is correct easier way is to look along chasis rail under drivers side, the hardbody i bought of ebay as spares didnt have a chasis number anywhere!
yo need to check on the car vin plate and copy that as well as they want all of your numbers to make sure it isnt a cloned or written off motor
my sister inlaw has just had the same thing turned out the car was a write off and hadnt been updated due to not having a vic check done

Have they asked why it says miles instead of km yet? :D
seems that the MOT testers have messed up. the V5 should be correct, but id check the plate also in the engine bay at the back.
this may explain things about the vin number
http://www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com/vehicle_identification_numbers_vin_detail.html
what does the old mot doc state the vin is ?

mot testers took the vin from the plate on the car didnt they ???

As said, copy the one on the vin plate on the car, maybe the other one is the engine number.
how longs it taken for them to realise?

suspect ones a VIN and one is something else. If they are mildly similar its possible theres a cockup but they usually pick that up quickly, happened to me when I bought my first parallel import from new, had the same details as a different colour car in Southampton, luckily it was theirs that was wrong.
Biut since the format is so totally different I reckon he's picked up the wrong number entirely....probably paint number or something LOL
If theres an issue they send you to a local vehicle inspection office for them to have a look-see.
how longs it taken for them to realise?
if it was a mistake then the recent mot will be the way they found out
is this the first mot you have had done pete

actually both of those are too short, should be 17 digits, although an import like that might be different......

Casting my mind back to my Nissan days the one on the MOT cert is the "Model Code". Pete you need to check the chassis number plate under the bonnet, probably fastened to the bulkhead on the n/s. If you are un sure give me or Clive a shout mate.
Jim
PS if DVLA say don't drive it, then don't because the first traffic car you come across will pull you.
ok i got it sorted , had to go back to the garage for him to look at the plates on the car ..... the v5 was incorrect , the number that had on was the engine number and not the vin number :doh , seems the importer put the wrong number on the docs :doh..... anyway because the m.o.t pertains to the vin number and not the engine number , my m.o.t is current and valid :thumb2......dvla where actually quite nice and understanding  , all i have to do is send the correct details back to them and they will send me a new v5 :thumb2
good innit ?
so there is a warning for mistral owners , if your v5 says r20 as the first part of your vin/chassis number .... its incorrect and if your mot says the same ..... its not valid
youll have plod knocking to see if its a ringer!

thanks jim , thats exactly what the guys at the garage did , there are two numbers on the plate under the bonnet , one is the model code which begins r20 , the 2nd one is the vin/chassis number which begins v .... s ... or k

nissan should start with the letter j on all iirc
mines jn1cnud22a0022392 (d22a for australia) the 2004 south african hardbody i bought for a donor car has nothing stamped into chasis anywhere and no grind marks lol

both of mine (one Mk1 one Mk2) start VSKTBUR20U0, you will note the R20, I did look it up once to find out the meanings, it all worked out but I forget now without looking it up again, Rick
on my v5 its says ....r20422883
on my m.o.t it says....tvpurwar20tda
think r20 is code for terrano like the older navara like mine is d22 newer ones d40.only safe way getting it is off chasis tin plate under bonnet easily swapped, digi cammera if cant get that low?
yes r20 is the code for the model
the hardbody starts with a d04 so maybe scratch the jn for all imports lol

just been out and looked at the scrapper it is the same as the other two, but the short WB Mav is VSKDXX
looks to me like the mot guys looked at the type number at the bottom of the plate , but the VIN is the top one and R20422883 looks to me like an engine number, Rick

your plate seems to have a lot less detain than all of mine, I think you need to get someone to lay on the ground by rear of drivers door and compare the numbers, but from your plate your v5 is OK, Rick
