View Full Version : cb setup
ok got meself one of them cb talky box thingies, its a barracuda, they any good? also never plugged anything like this in am i right in thinking i put the red wire to the fuse box and the black wire on the bodywork somewhere to earth it?
erm ..... before you start wiring it in ...... have you got a aerial too ?
Red to any fairly decent power source, No idea how many amps it pulls but can't be more than 1-2 amps. Black to ground.
I prefer to run power straight from the battery to reduce any possible electronic noise received on the CB. But should be fine done as above.
I had to run one for other radios that draw more power.
Where abouts you planning on mounting it, The small cubby hole infront of the gearstick makes a perfect place.

yep , but make sure you have a in line fuse
If you do it that way stick a fuse close to the battery on the + side (red).

A 3 or 5 Amp fuse should be ok provided that the cable is strong enough.
A few months ago I got my Amstrad 901 out, but on the return trip from Cannock to Oxford I copied 1 mobile CBer.
1 - 9 for a 10 - 13 southbound micky 40 got me no response.
Has the lingo changed?
Not used it since, does anyone still use CB on the road?

Before we had the kids in the early 80's I used the cb radio a lot, even had a licence. Later on, the language on the CB was too strong when the kids were in the car, and idiots were trying to be radio DJ's transmitting music on the breaking channels 14 and 19 so the CB went to the big box in the sky, well the loft.
I did find it useful for traffic conditions as the information was always local and up to date.:thumb2

just call 19 for a roger ..... someone might come back to you and say roger , then you know its working

i wired mine having mounted it in dash to feed for stereo, the one that feeds
the memory. found that in ciggy it could work loose and or if stalled then
restarted engine the electronic search would take the rig back to ch.9, now
its always ready, stays on channel and frees up ciggy socket for other stuff.
still on a magmount stinger twig, the cable routes behind dash then under
edge of transmission, under rear mat then sits in boot ready for action...
did wonder if radio would be safe being live if switched on, but found that
theres a safety device in the mike socket so once removed, whilst the
radio turns on, its muted and clearly cant transmit as mike is stored away.
my aerial is only about 50cms :jesterbg
