+1 .... too many small pipes and orifices where it can freeze.....

Hi clivvy thanks for your reply. would that stop the rear wiper from workin though ?. i have been driving it every day for hours and the water in the tub is fine , but theres also no noise when i try to pump water like it usually does ?

well if its not the fuse then clearly the pump is frozen? and I think both front and rear pumps are on the reservoir, so subject to freezing. Trickle a kettle of hot water over them and see what happens

yes mike, the wiper will work independent of the pump-seperate fuses/circuits. TBH, i dont know the location of the pump, but if you could find it, you can attempt to defrost it using a hair dryer or something similar. I think its the same pump for front and back though, so that explains why both have stiopped working. I presume you cant hear the pump operate when you pull the stalk for the washer jets?

coincedentally, the same thing happened to one of our work vans, a Berlingo, exactly the same, no pump but washers work, again, must have been frozen and after a short while it just started working again....

you could try unplugging the connector to the pump as well, and give it a clean, might have got moisture inside.
pain.

a bit late for this advice, but allways put plenty of screen wash in in this weather to help stop it freezing!

The alcohol evpourates from the jets and pipes too so it does freeze. Personally I would just sit back and wait for it to defrost on it's own. If needed just keep a bottle of water to throw at screen until it defrosts.

MKIV - No rear wiper, no wash, no intermittent wiper on the front = fuse. I'd double check it just to make sure!!!

Dont forget there are 2 fuses... one is for the washer pump, one for the washer motor (which also does rear wiper) :thumb2

my daughter and son in law work for Mazda and at this time of year they have hundreds of people with just this problem, they even have a poster about it on the front doors - new fuse + plenty of screen wash!

I sat in their reception on saturday morning waiting for our ford ranger to be MOT tested. And the amount of people coming in complaining 'under warranty' because their washers didnt work was unbeleiveable, half had no water in, the other half had frozen and popped the fuse from lack of screen wash!

Hey MikeJCB this is good news a nice cheap fix due to this club. Maybe it'll be worth paying the £10 membership to have access to even more advice:thumbs

well, my fuses were ok, so went for a drive for an hour, rear one started to work on our way home, but nothing from the front. Got home, parked up, tried again and they are working, so for me, the pumps were frozen!

I was amazed and some? - new fuse, keep trying washers again unitl it blows again without waiting for it to thaw first! i sat there listening and felt like Victor Meldrew "I don't beleive it" add to that people coming it to book the car in for a new indicator bulb (under warranty) can't find the jack, etc. etc. I would scream after a day working there.

We had a woman who rang up to claim we had not serviced her car properly as the washer reservoir was empty last week.

We checked the vehicle records and it was last serviced in June 2010 ! The fact that four months of use had lapsed before they ran out cut no ice with her!
