Hi in the on going minus temperatures my terrano 2 3.0 d has started to run badly .
When you you go past 2000 revs its as if the fuel has cut off would this be freezing fuel or is it something else and when the air temp goes above minus 1 it runs fine
The car has just had oil change and filters and was ok in last winters conditions

either normal pump diesel from morrisons or bp ultimate amnd use millers fuel supplement

was thinking glow plugs but it goes like stink when above minus conditions

I had a problem in below freezing temps that started in big freeze last winter. Think it may have initially been bad diesel I picked up that didn't have winter additives for freezing temps. Still having intermittent problems when it gets below freezing. Have changed fuel filter before now but this weekend changed filter but also gave a good cleaning out to the plastic unit that attaches to bottom of filter. Was some gunky brown stuff in the holes there I had to scrape and blow out. Hopefully that sorts the problem. Have u tried cleaning the banjo flter if you have one.

Don't think 3l has the banjo filter.

Dont think the 3ltr has 1.....
Also it wouldnt rev & get worse if it was the mini filter :thumbs


I'd look at the plugs & check the filter housing isn't gunked up :thumbs

hi thanks for info will change the filter not sure the 3.0 has a banjo filter will do a search on here .
I did fill up at a place i do nor normally use a couple of weeks ago but have had 4 tanks fulls since then

what would glow plugs do once engine is up and running, says when going past
2k rpm, got same with troll, running ok but bit sort of breathless at same time
even checked if i was in 4 hi not 2 hi, as subtle windup has that same sort of
effect on running.

could cold air being sucked in be an issue, yet thought cold air helped ignition
hence intercoolers etc.

perhaps lumpy diesel, afterall combined with wind chill under car, maybe?

Worth bearing in mind that 2K rpm is roughly when then the turbo starts to spool up,.. so may be worth paying attention to the charge air pressure sensor or even the dreaded MAF. Both of theses sensors could misbehave in sub zero air.
Check to see if any fault codes logged, if there are could point you in the right direction.

I would agree....as T3 says, in reality your truck ought to be peforming even better in this cold weather because of all the extra fuel being squirted in by the ECU as a result of the denser cold air.....

Not sure if the 3litre is the same as the 2.7 but click on "Quick Links" at the top right of your screen and then choose "Downloads" and have a browse through the different Workshops.

Hi all have changed the fuel filter and done 200 plus miles in minus 4 and its been fine and seems to run smoother than it has for about 3 months .
The old filter did not have a drain on it and it was half full of water and sludge also it had started to break down and 2 off the 4 outlet ports where blocked it was changed in march this year.
Have fitted a nissan part this time as the old one was from milners .
The truck was ran on 50/50 veg oil ,diesel mix in the summer would that have caused the filter to break down

well it depends how crap a filter it was.....if it was SVO then it shouldn't as there are no acids in it to dissolve anything.....but if you were running WVO the same cannot be said.

In which case its absoloutely fine....but your filter DEFINITELY sounds sub-standard, in which case who knows what shite has found its way through to the injectors...you might need your fuel lines/injectors blowing through....

Filters one area where its not worth scrimping, but Milners ought to know better!!

Ask the Opie Oils man about their filters?

Our two main filter suppliers UFI and MAHLE produce OEM spec and approved filters, they also make many OEM filters that you will find on the cars when new and through delaers as genuine parts. Many of our filters come Branded as Ford or LandRover or BMW and so on.

I cannot speak for other brands of filters.

I have to say I have no connection with Opie but thanks to the Z4 forum I have recently had my Zed oil-changed with several pleasantly discounted litres of Castrol Edge and an Opie filter - all very happy! :thumb2
