Put the Terrano in yesterday for M.O.T..it passed, no probs whatsoever
Was thinking though I always find waiting for the result of the M.O.T is worse or more nerve racking than being an expectant father! I'm sure it's not just me, as the were guys outside the centre pacing up and down having a fag waiting for the news!!
Are you the same?

I've not managed to throw up yet ... but it does worry me. The Patrol is due it's first MOT by the end of July 08 - but I'll still worry about it for weeks in advance.

Except that I'm going away on holiday (for 6 weeks) third week July - and knowing me, I'll only get it tested at the last minute. Aggggghhhhhhh ...............

could you take it early and get 13mths or because its the first one will that not work?

I think the deal (though I never remember to do it) is that if for the first MOT, you take the V5C in up to a month before it's due then they can date the MOT from the date on which it is due. Same thing applies if you take your MOT certificate in for following years.

I have allways taken vehicles in amonth early, but under the new computerised system they now set a minimum and maximum time for the test after the early one, to "preserve the anual test of your vehicle" so you cant really take it in early the next ime!

I try to put it in about two weeks before the old m.o.t expires, to be honest never check if the extra days have been added on!

My Mistral is due on 13th. March ... so I will take her in hopefully before the end of this month. If she passes, I'll have a nice long M.O.T. if she fails ... I'll have time to get it fixed.

It's 28 days, my expiry date was 13 Dec 07, it was retested on 16 Nov 07. The expiry date on the new MOT is 13 Dec 08. A note on the new MOT says :- To preserve the anniversary of the expiry date the earliest you can present your vehicle for test is 14 Nov 08.

Mine due mid-march, put it in through the local garage so it gets a pre MOT service. Not failed an MOT yet, but has often had remedial work done pre MOT test as part of the service.
all this talk of mot`s i thought i`d just check mine.
it expired the 11th of jan :( just hope i can get it booked in somewhere now tomorrow

That's good. MOT stations must, I guess, all have had some new IT system installed to allow that to happen. I've got quite used to renewing the road tax online - a lot easier than trying to find all the paperwork and then swanning off to a post office. This implies that the DVLA system has links with insurers and now knows whether your motor is MOTd and insured too.
Big brother is watching .............

The Mistral's going in for MOT tomorrow. I'm hoping it'll pass as I've kept it well maintained over the last year but I'm still a bit nervous. I'll take it to my friendly MOT guy and then go to work and pick it up later.
I'll be on tenterhooks waiting for the phone to ring all day. It's either a big MOT bill or a week away in April at the moment!
mine passed with friendly mot man
nice people to now these mot testers du think
can an mot tester test his own car?

Took my Mistral in for M.O.T. this morning ..... and she passed !!! M.O.T. tester VERY FRIENDLY .... put copperslip on steering-lock stops, pointed out any areas where problems could occur .... pointed out to me that rear brakes were excellent on handbrake, but not so good on pedal, and seemed to know his way around Mistral / Terrano II , so needless to say , I will be putting work his way again in future . Truck has only done 7,000 Klm since last test , and she is right now till 12th. March 2009.

yes they can! I know this for a fact, but personaly it may not be considered ethical, but on the other hand if we were to deny him/ her the abiltiy to test their own cars, would we basicaly be questioning their integrity?
true palnk catch 22 situation lol

My Mistral has failed today on a rear suspension bush, an anti roll bar linkage a dim side light bulb, a wiper blade and the emissions test, so not too costly.
For the emissions he has added a fuel system treatment and advised me to thrash it to clear the soot out of the exhaust over the weekend and I've got to wait till Monday for the Bush to be delivered.
And he agreed with Jace that you can MOT your own car but gets someone else to do it for the certificate.
Well that's the maverick through another MOT again, No problems at all, all I did was clean out the rear brake drums and adjusted the handbrake prior to submitting. Checked all the bearings, bushes, still on original everything not bad for a vehicle 13 years old.
Why is it so stressful at this time of year... ?
Again it's thanks to this club that I check all the things that can go wrong and keep on top of things, so MOT time is a quick 30 minute pre-check.
Best regards, Rustic
