oh errr......... No expert on this but did have issues with my truck when I first got it on reversing (especially round corners) when it seemed to be really juddering and grabbing as if I was trying to push over something !!! Changed the oil in back axle (as per advice on this site:clap:clap) as it is an LSD and can cause the gears/clutches (if such a thing exists in the axle?) to wind up.... anyway yukky stuff out, new stuff in and bingo, no judder at all :) ..... or I guess it could be a gearbox problem???? Am sure a far more expert person than I will come along and know the answer.....
pete are you in 4wd or not ? might just be wind up

tis indeed a clutch-operated LSD:thumb2 Just not very sophisticated so not to be compared with the LSDs you find on sports cars etc..;)
was it a sharp corner?
not overly sharp , about half lock

If you were DEFINITELY on ice, then it won't be the LSD oil thing.....but if it was on tarmac then you may well have met the deep joy of transmission windup.....dodgy oil does nothing more than cause slightly odd behaviour/noise when really shot....it won't cause a dead stop. If it IS windup, you just apply a bit more welly to overcome it....no danger as the tyres just skip a bit to unwind it, just don't make a habit of it.
But if it seriously won't reverse after all that then something bigger is fecked I'd say.
LSD oil supposed to be changed every 40k miles or so.....but probably never been touched because most people will have run out of warranty before they hit that mileage, after which they take it to an independent that usually knows even less about the T2/Mav than Nissan do - if thats possible!:doh

4WD might make a difference to behaviour in reverse in snow, can't remember....its my age:(
Does sound like wind up...I have bounced around a few slow corner manoeuvres.....[see how i spelled that correctly....just being posh could have said turn :augie]

pete it wont be slippery enough for 4wd now if it is fine in 2wd then i would have to say it is windup
its either that or your transfer box is on its way out

yeah , can drive around in 4wd too , but it didnt wanna know the other night , seems ok now tho even on sheet ice , although i havent tried reversing ( yet :naughty )
if you can drive arround fine in 2wd then i would leave in that as you dont want to do any damage to it
have you tried reversing in 4wd since it tried to stop ? and does it still do it ?
try it with locked hubs if it still dont like it but in 2wd

So reversing in 4WD in a straight line is fine then???
I'd deffo get your rear LSD oil changed... make sure its the right oil they put in - oh, and that they can open the filler before they drain it all out!!!! Its good practice to then run the car for a 1000 miles / couple of months then change again
How many miles has Sally done? Bet the rear diff is full of sh1t!

Of the T2s/Mavs we have had here several plugs I could not move with even a 3ft knuckle bar, so just got me plumbers blow torch heated it till I could not hold my hand on it for more than a few seconds, undone with a normal T bar no problem, Rick
do you flush it out like engine oil then refill ? :nenau

You will need:
Rear Diff - LSD API GL-5 80w90 (THINK it takes about 3 ltrs)
When I did my LSD I undid the filler first, then the drain but found it a pain in the ar*e to try refill! This was solved by using a squeezy ketchup bottle to 'squeeze' the oil in - keep filling till you get no more in.
No washers or ought to change... I didnt anyways!
Run it for 1000 miles, then repeat to make sure all the gunk is out
