Sounds a bargain, and you will learn something, but do you have to use your own car? You said your speedo was wrong.

No points :thumb2
I did the course not too long ago.

I was nailed for speeding....my fault...

To be absolutely honest depends on your experience/age it was one of the longest 4 hours I have sat through.
A lot of people do get some benefit from the course [apart from no points]
but I found it patronizing. .....still no points which is good after 48yrs....must remember to concentrate more near home.

thor
05-12-2010, 12:15
yes........but I had a mate who is so stubborn he would not do the course, then a few months later got tugged again..

There was a guy on my course in mid Cheshire who was from the Isle of Man....he had spent a lot of money just to attend, he was same as me, driving long time and did not want points.

i passed my test at 17 ( remember the red cardboard driving licences lol ) ......i am now 56 , i have never had a accident on the road which was my fault ... had a few where people have run into the side /back of me .... i have had a very serious accident which was my fault , but was on a racetrack at 100 + mph ..... i used to race motorbikes

Doing the course will still leave your licence clean.

I think you will find its £60 fine and £60 to do the course = £120.00

Thats what it was when I got done.

The cost is only the £60 - thats what I had to pay Avon & Somerset. No points on my licence and no requirement to tell insurance company - only thing is if you get done again you can't do another course for 3 years. The course is interesting but they do talk down to you, I felt like a naughty child in junior school!

i took the fine and 3 points as the course was 130 quid, plus i have used all my holidays at work so i would lose a days pay aswell.was doing 36 in a 30 zone. 3mph slower and i would have got away with it.
not made a difference to my insurance was in fact cheaper than last year.
have had clean liscense for 18 years but never mind these things happen.

Briggie, its a complete absolute no brainer.

Course it has to be.

So called "points" on your licence are the record of the level of endorsement.

You cant have one without the other.

As for court, thats for the very indignant, very brave or plain stupid in bog standard circumstances like yours :thumb2

Why do you ask?

Cuz if they have not contacted you within 14 days of offense there not allow to do you for it.Also if he was 35 he could of got away with it as well.I know as i used it in court when they tryed to do me for 34 in a 30 zone.

ahhhh...............

depends on the area for the 34/35 argument. In some areas you will get prosecuted for 35 and if you were convicted, youd have costs for both sides :thumb2

I dont know why you were cleared. I can only guess they were working on the 10% + 2mph

As for the 14 days, the NIP/conditional offer must be SENT OUT by the authorities within 14 days. Statement of posting is held to be acceptable as it being served. As far as having to receive it within 14 days that is myth. Circumstances have occurred where a driver has never received the letter at all and the first they knew was a recorded delivery follow up or summons and the prosecution has proceeded.

Just be wary of advice you follow :thumb2:thumb2

Hi Briggie,

If you go for the course then there are no point (aka endorsements) on your licence though it is still a disclosable offence for insurance purposes.
One of the Girls at work attended a speed awareness course in Notts and to her credit she says it has changed her driving completely though the course fee was extra in Notts.

My seminal moment came in 1986/7 when I was still a serving officer and attended a fatal accident in Somercoates where a 3 year old boy was killed in an Road Traffic Collision involving a skip lorry.

The driver was blameless as were the parents and it made me very aware of how deadly a vehicle is even when driven lawfully. It was almost 2 hours before we traced the parents and the initial identification was based on a description of the boy who was wearing a Thomas the Tank Engine T-shirt.

Since that day I have very rarely exceeded the speed limit on any road other than a motorway . Knocking on the door of a complete stranger to tell them their son who they had reported missing has been killed in an accident somehow stays with you and saving a few minutes on a jouney is somehow pointless.

I am not trying to preach about the dangers of speeding just sharing an experience that has stayed with me all these years.
