Started to do my rear winch mod on the old Black Pearl the other day
I new the rear floor was pretty shot so cut all that out ready to make a recessed winch tray internally. Just look at the mess

A bit more to this job than we thought darn it :banghead
Anyway turns out my rear N/S chassis is made of cheese and the only thing holding it all together was the rind !
Spring hanger goosed too so a quick slice ready for a nice bit of plate.

Poke around a bit more got this to fix too :doh

Rebuild is always better , here we go

Bloody wind yesterday was causing havoc with the gas and my son was swearing a bit :nono and he said not to show this weld but I reckon any weld in a force 8 is an achievment :clap

A bit more underneath needed

Less wind today and no rain so fingers crossed we can get the rest closed in again :bow

Some nice welds there, is it your son doing them?

Jobs on cars tend to be bigger than expected especially with regards to welding.

I can't remember if I have already asked this, but what welder do you have.
He made a good job of the welding in those conditions :thumb2

Ay it's become a labour of love  The boy does the labour and I love him :lol
Here's the welder , the boy and myself went shares in it :thumbs

Here's another sexy weld at the end of the winch tray ( less wind today :) )

Inside you get an idea of what we're upto

Tray welded in now and attached spring hangers to it :sly

New floor going in and mainly joined upto the rest of the truck. Just need to redo the spot welds under the rear door .

I'll be cutting out a bit more of it to make the winch recess tomorrow. It's now beer o clock and the camera has gone all fuzzy :splif:beer

That really is some great welding:thumb2. Im a bit scared to poke around my old Patrol incase its worse than what I know about:eek::(

I learnt my lesson with the Pearl
Do not leave a car sitting :doh Especially with the chassis protected by old mud :wasntme
I'm going to do a body off job on the Trol as soon as we can find a shed :sly

Makeitfit your boot floor looks like a normal disco's:lol:lol:lol please stop taking poor Pearl near LR's as it's catching their tin worm:doh Welding is something i'm going to have to learn as i'm hoping to keep my T2 for 8 years if I can:augie

It was just easier to replace the whole thing, all of 6 quid :thumb2
Although I have just had a very large penny fall on my bonce
I forgot to do the cut out for the tank :doh
Jigsaw in the morning then :(

A little update ;)

The sun came out for many hours today and the boy and I got home early :sly
So here's the winch tray all welded up

It's going in this hole in the floor and will be about 5mm off the new cross member you can see. It's just been rust preventer treated

Trial fit seems good to me :clap

Here you can see what's going on I hope, just packed off the cross member with a pad of nylon. The winch will be bolted through that eventually.

That's the winch fairlead slot . The underside of the floor is getting a treatment once the welding's done :thumb2

Offide wheel arch and tub have been cut back and de rotted, then stiched back up again :sly

Loads of room for my big boots to flex now :naughty

Need more gas and wire in the morning and then we'll get the last bits welded up. we hope :p
