There should be a plate under the bonnet with three weights on it.

A) Kerb Weight
B) Gross Vehicle Weight
C) Maximum Allowed mass.

A - is basic weight of vehicle
B - is Max allowed weight of vehicle loaded
C - Max allowed all up weight including trailer

So C-B = max allowed trailer weight.
Anything in manuals, brochures etc is not the legal weight, if you were stopped by VOSA they would refer to the plate to calculate what is and isn't legal.

You're not allowed extra trailer weight even if the truck isn't carrying fully load.

On the 95N SWB 2.4 petrol I've got its 2800kg

what you planning on towing Stick?

HB is right but in real terms people police vosa etc only use these stated weights on commmercials, and daft as it sounds with a car you can tow pretty much anyhting you like!

Hi Plank

I want to tow a large power boat, the combined weight of the trailer and boat is 1950Kg. I sold my Maverick, and brought a C5 TD for the fuel economy and comfort on the motorway. Then changed my boat and need a tow car that will pull it, I plan to buy a cheep Maverick, tow the boat to Dartmouth from Bristol, then sell the Maverick.
Shame I hear you all say and I expect to get kicked off for having such plains but my previous Maverick was brilliant and it’s a car I trust.

it should pull that no problem, to be honest i would pull it with the C5 td Ihave towed worse combinations, I have a smallish ifor williams trailer with a gross wieht of 1650 kilos and i have towed that full loaded regularly with a 1.9 diesel partner van!

There is 'bizzarley' no legal weigh limit for towin with a car, if you take the recomended 85% of car weight recommended by caravan club etc. you wouldnt be able to tow your boat with any car!

If your sticking with a 4x4 for the trip I would buy anyhtin that came along at the right price, and not hold out for a paticualr make and model, it isnt a long journey is it, could you take the boat there on the water and tow the empty trailer with your c5?
